I learned a lot after a game this weekend... where I was horribly massacred. I'm fairly new to the game and have recently invested in a Blood Angels army. I had a unit of Jump Packed Death Company deep strike right next to my enemy. Right as I was about to roll to shoot, my friend said, you can't shoot or assault after deep strike. WUH! Even with the DoA rule, there was nothing said about shooting or assaulting after deep strike. After looking around the net, I see some people saying you can and some saying you can't but I've never found a rule that says you can.

There was also a thread, else where, that said because the dedicated transports have Lucifer engines, they're fast and can deep strike and shoot one weapon. I've been going through the rules but finding some loop hole has failed me. Am I missing something, or is there really some combination to deepstrike a death company and shoot and assault.

You can shoot, but unless specifically stated otherwise you can't assault. No idea about the engines thingy.

Also, this might not be my place to say, but I usually find that DS'ing assault marines, even Blood Angels Assasult MArines, is rarely worth it.

Okay. I clearly need to read all the rules on Deepstrike. Honestly the rule book is getting pretty big and am trying to bring myself up to speed. Didn't realize that I could actually shoot and just not assault, that would have helped a bit but on the whole agree with you, I don't think I'll be ds my dc again.

Yep, you can deepstrike and shoot (or run) but, unless you have something like Heroic Intervention, you cannot assault.
You can deepstrike landraiders

Okay:
Yes, after deep-striking you are allowed to shoot with the squad. However, unless specifically stated in their codex entry you are not able to assualt.

Lucifer engines are just some background fluff to explain why every vehicle in the Blood Angels army is 'fast'. The only non-'fast' vehicles are land raiders which are permitted to deep strike ONLY in the Blood Angels codex and may fire their weapons.

Hope this cleared things up!

Zeph.

The Deep Strike rules are in the main book and are only a couple of paragraphs long. You can shoot (or run) but not assault. Heroic Intervention is a special rule for Vanguard Vets which gives them an exception to this, but has some limitations and restrictions.

You seem to be a bit confused. The basic Deep Strike rules clearly specify that a vehicle which Deep Strikes is considered to be moving at Cruising Speed the turn it does so. A Fast vehicle is allowed to fire one weapon (and any Defensive weapons) when moving at Cruising speed. So a Land Speeder which Deep Strikes can fire one gun that turn. The only Dedicated Transports in the Blood Angels codex which have the Deep Strike rule, however, are Drop Pods and Land Raiders; neither of which has the vehicle type "Fast".

on that Deepstrike Landraider, I'm assuming any units it's carrying can't assault out that turn correct?

Correct. Per the most recent FAQ (and common sense before that) they count as Deep Striking if their transport does.

“Do not ask me to approach the battle meekly, to creep through the shadows, or to quietly slip on my foes in the dark. I am Rogal Dorn, Imperial Fist, Space Marine, Emperor’s Champion. Let my enemies cower at my advance and tremble at the sight of me.”

They also didnt need it in the FAQ, it's in the rules for deepstrike itself. P94 / 95 from memory

Just to add - you cannot assault from ANY DEEPSTRIKING VEHICLE unless it specifically states you can.
