I don't think it's been as good since the move to video, but it's never been more than hit and miss.
That said, "Variety Of Unsustainable Business Models Make Up Extremely Hip Neighborhood" is really funny.

Well, it's clearly gotten different. The old stuff was generally goofier, or slice of life. They went through a phase for a while with really dark and bitter humor.
Now they tend to be a little more hitting in their satire, while sticking with a few established running jokes.

I imagine like anything with a staff it will change over time, with some hitting a different persons sweet spot while other writing staffs will certainly be more hit and miss. I'll always love "Man in mid thirties no longer thinks bad movies are good anymore" is a great article.

I'd imagine the gig that people actually pay for is getting more talent than the one they give away for free.
But it's still a good read.
And their Sept 11 issue is still somethng that makes me laugh and cry like a little girl.

What is wrong with SNL? I mean, here they have their choice of talent from across the US, and basically free reign to do whatever is funny. But it sucks, and it sucks so bad. How can the most famous skit show in the world be completely horrible?

That is my point. They, in theory, get some of the best improve comics and writers out there and it is still incredibly hit or miss. Just paying someone doesn't mean everything they write will be comedy gold. The humor, like the Onion, evolves and changes over time with new members and so the humor in one incarnation may not tickle one's fancy as much as another.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.
