Hi all,

recently I've bought a large collection of 40K off of someone which included a couple of old noise marines (2 of each weapon), an old terminator and some harlequins (normal and a death jester) still in the blister, dated 1995 (the blisters have the 2nd edition style logo).
My question was, does really old stuff still in the packaging have, like many nerdy collectibles, a substantially larger value than it's unpackaged counterpart? And do these specific models? And, also important, are these prices hypothetical or do people actually buy these things?

I was thinking of putting together some Noise Marine squads for my CSM now that I have them anyway but if they go for $10+ per marine I'd rather trade them in for something I actually need.

Your best bet is to check out the 'buy it now' options to guage how much others think the minis are worth. It depends on the rarity, and if that particular mini is also flavour of the month. A lot of the older Eldar stuff seems to be making good prices in general at the moment.

I'm not sure if the packaging increases the value, but I'm sure it cant harm your prices if it's present. I would personally ebay it and then get stuff that you really want. Remember to get the auctions to finish just after the turn of the month when people have just been paid.

Indeed, funnily enough i have that same death jester sat nex to me in its 2nd ed blister
it originally cost £2.75
unpackaged ones are going for at least a fiver

my fave is the old snotling pump wagon WHFB i have 3 in blisters and they're worth about £40 each.
the older it is the more its worth, i'm going to leave all my still packaged 90's stuff another 10 or so years.
heck may give em to the kids when they're old enough to resist opening it.
seriously box stuff and forget about it for the next 20 to 30 years you'd be amazed how much popular toys price for 30 years on!

+1

However, the general rule when pricing OOP/ltd ed collector's items is: Original RRP x 2

The unpackaged items fluctuate wildly according to buyers' demand. However, these will regularly be equivalent or below original RRP as the items are considered 'damaged'.

This formula could be incorrect for RT/GW minis, as I mainly deal in Rackham and real collectibles.
