Hello, I'm looking to get some suitable replacements for my old gw inks which are quickly getting used up.
I know coat d'arms make the same paints gw used to but they are hard to find in the US and the inks in particular are very scarce.
I havent tried vallejo, p3, or reaper inks but I havent heard of any of them making that good of a match for gw's old line. (if anyone has input on these lines please enlighten me)
Given the range of colors and cost per volume I wanted to look into getting some acrylic artist's inks and use them. I have already heard burnt sienna is a very good substitute for chestnut ink. Even if the colors don't match I feel better about mixing them since I will get enough to mix an entire empty dropper bottle full at a time and getting a consistent color for a long time.
So dose anyone have any first hand experience with these that could shed some light on what particular colors from which lines I might want? I normally get my art supplies from blick so I was particularly interested in the daler-rowney and liquitex brands but I've heard good things about windsor and newton's inks too and If I can find a good supplier I'm not opposed or partial to any brand.
If anyone is an artist or art student and familiar with the old gw inks I'm sure you could be of help just making your best guess.

A company called coat d'arms still sells the old GW inks. Get them from there.

They are the company that supplied GW with their paints and inks originally, so they are literally the exact same product and even come in the same old bottles.

There are issues with artists acrylics being colourfast... they're designed to be resistant to fading, but give it a decade or so and they will not look the same.

Thank you for the info about the inks being colorfast. Do you have any further information how the colors might change? Do they tend to lean to the warm or the cool side?

As for coat d'arms, I posted in the OP, I am aware of them. They are very VERY hard to find here in the states. The only retailer I'm aware of is brookhurst hobbies and they do not even have the inks listed on their website. That means the best option is to order enough ink from maelstrom games in the UK to get free shipping and well, that's a whole lot of ink to buy at once and currency conversion rates can make it a pain.
