Hello everyone!

I'm relatively new to the hobby. New being I started buying mini and the 5th ed book nearly 2 years ago and am just now getting around to doing some painting. This is a dread from the AoBR set that I wanted to get some C&C on. I have not based the mini yet nor did I do any hard edge highlights as I am going for just getting a decent tabletop look down. I'll play with more advanced techniques later on once I finish most of my rank and file troops. Let me know what you think.

Looks great! Only thing I would suggest is doing some highlights.

For tabletop purposes that looks amazing. But if you really want to make it shine add some highlights and maybe some color to the area inside the close combat weapon and also to the mechanical parts, instead of a just a black maybe a darkened steel color or even take some boltgun metal and darken it up a bit, or copy what you have on the arms like the color for the ammo feed or the fuel cells for the melta. Those would be my simple ideas. But otherwise I like it, nice and smooth looking

If not for the mediocre who would be great, and thank goodness for those who are just terrible they make even those who are mediocre look great

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll maybe see what I can do about some highlights and post back. One of the reasons I didn't try them before was being unsure about my ability to do well. We'll see

Great start, I second (5th?) the highlights, and would recommend basing it before going too much further. I know that some folks don't worry about basing, but especially on minis with larger bases, I think that it really helps the model itself.
Cheers, looks a lot nicer than my first mini.

Well, it certainly is quite nice for a first mini. Decent tabletop quality, too. Way better than my first models. You even drilled out the barrels.

Only thing really lacking (highlights are nice, but not necessarily needed for a TT quality model) is the base. Even a simple base (sand, drybrushed with brown and grey, and some patches of gras) can go a long way.

do some research on tips and tricks. Dry Brushing is a great tip to pick up and explanations can be found everywhere. If your FLGS has a copy of the GW "how to paint a space marine" book its full of good tips and techniques as well and makes a great reference guide.
