Alright so I just painted Mr. Ghazghkull Thraka to high table top quality and I don't want paint to chip of because metal models are known to do that. I just put 2 or 3 coats of Testors Dull Coat Lacquer in hopes to protect it. I was really just wondering if any knew a good way to preserve metal models or of a good product. I also added my Ghazghkull Thraka for C&C. Thanks Dakka Dakka

I use dull coat as well and it seems to do a good job in preventing chipping.
Very nice job on Ghazzie BTW.

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

Testor's Dullcote on its own does a pretty good job, I think most people will agree on that. However, I've heard that the Testor's Glosscote actually offers a little bit more protection, so what I do is spray everything with a coat of gloss, and then I spray a second coat of matte (i.e. dullcote) to kill the shine. It's worked out quite well so far, and I haven't really had any problems, especially compared to models that I used to leave unvarnished, which would chip like crazy.

Yeah, if you want it to survive then use a hard gloss first as it's far tougher, and then put your matt on afterwards cos it looks nice.
