I have seen all the scratch built venoms that have been made, majority of which were parts from a new Raider and an Eldar Vyper.

Well, I decided I didnt wanna go spend $60 for two new vehicles to make just one. I have alot of the older Raiders, so I decided I was gonna see what I could make up with one to be a Venom.

After an hour or so of sawing and gluing and green stuff putty to fill holes, this is what I settled on, and I think it looks pretty cool, but am definitely interested to hear what everyone else thinks!!!

I don't know jack about the DE list but to me, it looks really short, lengthwise I mean. i don't know how long it's "supposed" to be but thats my thought.

Looks very cool and evil though!

Well, they don't have a venom model yet, but it's a 5 man transport, so ifigured it would be half the length of a Raider, which holds 10 models. It's about 1/2" shorter than a Razorback without the splinter cannon I have modelled onto the front, of that gives you a better idea of actual size on it

I have about 12 old raiders that I'm about to start hacking. Even if a venom model comes out, I'll convert first to get a use out of my old models.

I think it looks good for the most part, I'm just not a fan of how big that gun in the front is tbh. If you shortened that I think the model would work very well.

I think it looks really cool. I looks fast and sleek like and Dark Eldar thing should.

That being said...

I think that it needs a taller base. It is a skimmer and I think that some people would not like to play against this as it is very low to the ground for a skimmer. It looks like it is resting on the ground. It should have some kind of flying stand.

I can post up how I did it if you want, it only took about an hour, and most of that was waiting for glue and putty to dry and hold.

I actually agree with you on that and will probably slice it down, just didn't want to do it before I put it on there and saw what it would look like. I tried with just the gun on the front at first, and it just didn't look right, but I think it looks better with the forked prow on it with the gun maybe 1/4" to 1/2" longer than the prow.

It is on a flying stand, I just made a bit to big of a hole in the bottom, so had t cut down the base to get it to stand in there. I will probably build up the post for the base a bit or else putty the hole to be a bit smaller and reset on a higher base, but it does sit about 3/4" off the table, so maybe its just a lowrider???

Also, I have sliced down the front gun to about the same size as the Disintegrator cannon the Warrior has ahold of, and it looks alot better!!! Thanks for the suggestion Morgendonner!!

I am now picturing a bunch of Dark Eldar in this with "Straight Outta Compton" blasting on the stereo, bouncing the front end. It's a great mental image.

Yeah, I am gonna put some more putty in the drill hole to shrink it and put it back on a regular sized stand. That's the stand I use for my Talos anyway, so was gonna need it back.

Could you post how you made it? I want to start slicing and dicing so I don't have to keep saying these raiders are venoms and these are raiders.

I can, but didn't take any pictures of this one so it will be simply a step by step process. I will make a thread on it.....

"Turning your old Raiders into Venoms" will be the name, so look for it in about 30 mins. once I have finished it!!

Galador, here's a venom i bet you haven't seen. unfortunately i can't use it in my Eldar army now at all since GW gave the Venom to the Dark Eldar. I think it should have remained as a dedicated transport for Harlequins only and able to used across the board for both Eldar and Dark Eldar armies.

I would appreciate knowing what you think of it, i have more pics but this is your thread and i don't want to steal it from you.

It is way to big. I believe fluff wise the Dark eldar are supposed to be hanging off the sides and it carries 5 or 6 right. So if you imagine 5-6 bases all lined up that covers barely any space. Also if they were hanging off the back they would not even take up a whole base worth of space.

I think you ought to remove the side walkways and remove the front thing. This would make it look much more sleek.

Imo that is almost really cool. If you left all that junk on the front off, I think it would look a ton better.

Your right, I have never seen that one!!!! I retract my previous statement of seeing all of them

! I think it looks pretty cool, although personally I wouldn't have thought of the side-rails for the platforms, but its an interesting concept!! The only thing I might have done different is make the star cannon on top under-slung and remote controlled by the gunner, but that is just because I never like the original Vypers setup with that. Feel free to point me to the pictures in your Dakka gallery or wherever you have them at, cause I am new to converting and am trying to learn from other peoples ideas while creating something of my own at the same time!!! And thanks for sharing that Venom!!

That is a consideration.... The only reason I put them back on was I needed somewhere for the models to "stand" and it just didn't look like they had anywhere in the space where the gunner and driver were. If you look at the side pics you will also see that the gunners head almost is touching the drivers controls, so I have cut it down lengthwise as far as I could...

by junk on the front, do you mean the prow piece with the second splinter cannon, the original top wing, or both???

your welcome and thank you for the compliment. I always wanted to build a venom myself, but every pic I've ever seen except for yours here at the top, the platform runs from the back of the Vyper. That to me always made the thing look clunky, unorganized, and destroyed the graceful lines of the vyper. The Eldar are all about grace, speed and beauty, same for the Dark Eldar but with a more masochistic take to things. So when i finally got my hands on the platforms without having to buy the raider kits, I sat and thought about it, and realized that the platform when turned in one direction would actually run right along the sides of the Vypers canopy. from that realization my venom was born. All i did was remove the end bits from the platform itself and save them for use as railings. along with cutouts from a car air freshener piece you can buy at dollar general.

WTH is that, a new Batmobile? I guess so based on the url address, BUT, just exactly when did Batman become concerned about gas mileage and the environment? looks cool at any rate but not what i would expect for a Batmobile.

Hey guys, sorry for my (almost) threadnomancy, just wanted to tell you that I am starting Deldar, and am hoping to convert my own venoms.

Best of Luck to you brah, there's another Venom that looks really sweet that's made from the vyper and the new raider kit posted up in the best conversion thread, if you haven't seen yet you should really check it out. Do that and with Galador's design, my design, the one in the best conversion thread, and the ones you can find by googleing for venoms, you'll have plenty of different approaches to choose from. for mine you cut the ends off and save them so that you have nothing but the solid portion of the sideboards, turn them so they fit along the edge of the vyper canopy. the second set of sideboards gets lined up along the back of the first set, angled slightly and then cut in such a way that it fits up against the back of the vyper where the gunner turret is at. from there just green stuff the gaps and make a grid pattern in the green stuff to match the actual sideboards, then take a strip of thin plasticard and glue it the top of sideboard end that you previously set aside, once dried mount them as side rails. the other rails are as i said pieces cut out of an air freshener, Dollar General sells them cheap and it looks like a UFO with a clear center piece, the pieces you want from it are the vents. cut them out and mount them as aide rails also and Taa Daa. you now have a vyper.

I have made another 3 of those Venoms, and I made one out of a Vyper I purchased with the sails left over from one of my Raiders. I will post up a pic of the new Venom tomorrow for you to look at. Haven't seen anyone use the sails yet, and I think it looks cool. I use them under the idea that they are folding platforms for the guys to stand on, and once they have gotten off the Venom, they can be folded in for increased speed. Of course, that doesn't translate to the tabletop, but it seemed like a cool idea at the time!!!!

thanks man, I on the other hand cannot say the same thing, as i HAD forgotten about that. there's been alot going on in real life for me lately. At least i can't say that it's been boring, but sometimes i wish boredom was all i had to suffer through.
