Hey guys. my dad bought a plastic model of a kingfisher from one of his Plastic Plane shows, and i have a question

Which paints best match the 'base' colours in a kingfisher?

as in, which colours would you use as a base, and then wash in the darker colour /drybrush the lighter colour?

I was thinking - Enchanted Blue
Hawk Turquoise
Blazing orange

all washed in their respective washes.

would you go with these colours?
Cheers, JC

honestly, i think that the colors you posted may be correct, however, you'll probably be wanting to use only devlan mud, or badab black washes... a blue wash on the blue portions of the bird would be too much.

Thanks Ensis!

I think il do that, or just a very very thin deep blue.

also, what is a good basing colour 'green'? Camo green? Snot green?

depending on the overall shade you're going for, i normally start with orkhide shade, but Camo green would work, or DA green as well if you didnt want to use foundation paint.

I'd advise against a black wash on an organic surface, and might even stay away from devlan, in favour of gryphonne sepia (I really miss the warmer tones of the old brown ink).

Also, you could use a blue wash over the blue parts, if you were then to go back over the highlights with the brighter color again.

Thanks aswell, RedBeard. It will be my 12 year old sister thats painting this, and so the hardest painting techniques for her will be a drybrush, and the only 2 real techniques shell be using are washing/drybrushing.

thanks for the info!
