I've been a gamer a lot longer than I've known warhammer. It sort of hurts to admit that gaming will always be my first love. Funny enough my real introduction to 40k began with an fps on the ps2, yes firewarrior, my first ever exposure of warhammer 40k was in white dwarf it was space marines vs. necrons, my first thoughts were "Who are those blue dudes, they look like total p***ies." They turned out to be ultramarines, now my favorite chapter(we all have one), next I saw the necrons, they looked so creepy cool. But 40k was to unfamiliar to me, yet the modelling excited me, so a friend and I made plans to collect lotr, but it fell through. So when I saw Firewarrior I was looking for an fps and I saw the box and went "omw he's crouching on skulls, what a legend!" so little 12/13 year old me begged my dad to let me get a 16v game. He said yes and it was the start of a beatiful obsession. when i got to high school a friend introduced me to dawn of war (he had the original, w.a. and dark crusade), naturally I took to it. my firend now refuses to lan it with me because I make him look like a complete cake after I completely tau-break his forces. that friend then began to introduce me to the tabletop, he has lotr and old wh sets (skull pass & moria). that was 2 & and a quarter years ago. Now that I'm leavng for Aus, my group of friends will possibly lose their resolve to save up for pieces (they're expensive here in S.A.) my friends are mainly pipe dreamers, Now onto the main point: we the wargaming community must play wh40k and tom clancy games become inspired and think up a wh40k (possibly mmo) tactical fps A Moderator wrote:***No raping, please!***

Well they are making Space Marine (Cover based shooter) and Dark Milenium (MMORPG) for 40k.
Fantasy already has Battlemarch and WAR.
Then you have DoW and Fire Warrior.
There are quite a few games based on 40k or Fantasy when you think about it... i mean not loads but a decent amount.

yeah i know but it's not enough, we need a real tac shooter for all races, one thats at least close to the prestige that C.o.D., R6 and G.R. garnered

Fire Warrior was the worst game I’ve ever played. How one little Tau fire Warrior is able to defeat both a Daemon Prince and a Lord of Change. I’m no fan of Tom Clancy ether through I did like Dawn of War (Original).

Actually, this is NOT a cover based shooter. The mantra around the studio (and the unofficial slogan) is "cover is for pussies" since you are this big bounding Space Marine who just crashes through stuff like a Space Marine should. You're wearing power armor, and act like it too!
I think that a good semi-tactical FPS game as Imperial Guard would be a blast. Unfortunately there's no rumor or hearsay about such a game, but we can keep dreaming.

R6 vegas was one of the best tac shooters I've ever played. I enjoy the genre, but I don't think it best suits the style of 40k. Fluff wise, 40k is an epic, over-the-top action fest; a tac shooter, to me, wouldn't really be able to pull off.
I think the style of Space Marine is the perfect way to potray the 40k universe. Even if it looks a little been there, done that...I don't mind though, I guess we'll call it Gears of Warhammer (with a touch of dynasty warriors).

I've always dreamed of a Battlefront: 40k game.
Think Star Wars Battlefront but with 40k stuff instead. You got vehicles, classes, heroes. Would be so perfect.

I considered making mods for it. The problem you get is balance. If you got a team of 10v10, IGvsSM how can you balance it so you still feel powerful as a space marine yet not outright slaughter the IG? However just a good old fashion single player shooter with maybe co-op would be good.

I'm not talking R6 like controls for all, each army needs a different approch, eldar or tau for instance could play like R6, but space marines, orks and chaos might play like C.o.D., an original ghost recon system my also be good for tyranids,
so armies would have to be categorised: presicsion, assault and swarm but it may not be the best to generalise

I would have the IG command a squad rather than a single person... the squad follows the player around and provides an extra set of eye and an extra gun and ore importantly a meatshield in case it all goes to sh*t

Tactical fps games are a sub genre of the fps genre. They tend to focus more on realism than hollywood aciton sequences. CoD is an fps, but far from tactical. I don't think it would really work having each army control scheme and play style drastically different from the others. I mean, in a fire fight, the Eldar and Tau player have to focus on issuing commands to their squad, working with cover, and what not while the Marines or Orks get to run in guns blazing working with an easier arcade control scheme. I'm not saying it isn't doable, just very hard to balance.

I think the Brothers in Arms games are one of the best models to follow for this kind of thing. Open environments, multiple squads fighting at a time, and so on. You could balance it by having each IG guy be a fireteam of 3-5 Guardsmen and each Marine being his own man. That way you get 5 big guys who need to work together against 15-25 little guys who operate in small squads.

The one thing I did like about the Fire Warrior fps game was that you weren't a human, you were killing them instead, which I think was a brave decision.
With regards to a 'tac shooter' set in the 40k universe, I would love an updated Space Hulk!
A huge hulk full of scary genestealers, orks and chaos hitchikers, lots of very dark Doom 3/DeadSpace sections, some sneaky stealth sections, straight out firefights in huge gothic engine spaces, the works!
Perhaps early sections played as an IG squad and later sections played as a fully tooled up terminator squad.

Only way a 40k tactival shooter will ever be made is if some one uses an existing engine and basically changes everything in the game, it would be a massive task. one i wish i could do lol. the battle front idea is a good idea but it would have to be SM vs CSM for one lot (as i remeber its split into 2 the clony folks and the other ones, the other side it would be hard to balance, orks vs IG could be good, or somethin vs DE/eldar. the meshes and texturing everything would be a really big undertaking. On the topic of starwars games there was one called reble commando (i think) n i remeber my friend having it and you have 4 guys who have different roles that could work as a 4 player co op using SM as your team and nids as the enemy but again its only using the engine so would be huge.
Well i pose a question what do you think the best engine would be to have this tacti shooter?

You know what kind of 40k shooter game would be awesome? If it was done like the starwars battlefront games were. It's an idea I've been had.
Two armies battle one another, in space battles or just ground wars. Every race gets 4-5 units to pick from. The 40k version of battlefront!

A Silent Hill-like Inquisition-focused shooter would be awesome.
You play as an Inquisitor, who sniffed hints of heresy on a Hive World...and as you continue your investigation the world starts changing in a flux, becoming more Chaos-like as a cult is unearthed. Meet your retinue to get clues and hints as a deep plot is uncovered. Co-op play would involve player 2 being his Acolyte.
It would be so very different from lolspacemarines; with even RPG-like mechanics tossed in for replayability.

That actually sounds like a really decent game, wonder if the silent hill engine is modable to the extent it would need to do that, i think if the right people got involved in that it would be epic, the main point would not be combat but story and keeping the atmosphere as grim and misrable as the orig silent hill while being as evil as 40k warp spawn
