Hello everyone!

I just transfered from 40k over to WHFB and I am having a little trouble understanding how magic works.

I have the 8th edition BRB, and my Dwarfs codex (which doesn't help considering Dwarfs don't have any wizards), so, if you are not allowed to say anything because of GW or something like that you could direct to the correct pages.

Basically, how I understand the rules of magic within WHFB is that your opponent (before the game starts) rolls for his wizard's spells and selects spells that correspond to his dice rolls (ex. - opponent rolls a 2 and a 6, so, he has the options of choosing spells 2 and 6). Then during the Magic Phase he rolls 2d6+I have no idea for his WoM and I get his highest roll as my dispell +2 because I am playing as Dwarfs, as well as the chance of getting 1 dispell die from rolling a 6 and any more dice from my runes. Then, if he goes to cast a spell I choose as many dispell dice as I wish and try to roll higher than his roll + wizard level and this continues until he is done casting or runs out of dice?

If I was not supposed to post any of that, I'm sorry. I have no idea what I'm allowed and not allowed to post as far as rules go.

Right, starting from the top:

Winds of Magic is ALWAYS 2D6.
For every wizard in the "casting" they roll a dice, on a 6 they get another dice - so 2 wizards they roll 2 dice, every 6 nets them an extra power dice

You have no wizards (although it's possible they've decided Runesmiths count as one for dispelling, double check your FAQ) so you dont get to roll ANY dice to try to generate extra dispel dice, however as you noted - you do get 2 bonus dice, just for being a stunty

Every runesmith gets you an extra dispel dice, lords get you more, and you have rune of balance to help you nick their dice and add it to your dispel dice pile. Which is freaking awesome, btw!

You also only have to EQUAL his roll + wizard level, you dont have to beat it.

You got most of it right, good going - it's a painful learning process

dwarves get +2 to dispel not +2 dispel dice, so effectivly a lvl 2 vs a dwarf you just need to beat your opponents dice

only get extras for runesmiths, runelords - anvil of doom and some of the runes (MRoBalance comes to mind)

Ah balls, got 7th and 8th mixed there!

Yes, you get +2 to dispel, which isnt too bad as you can often end up with more dispel dice than your opponent has power dice....and you can also take quite a few spell breakers!
