Somewhere in the dark...

Can I give a dark angels veteran sergeant a power sword, combat shield and a bolt pistol? The bolt pistol is in a holster and the sword and shield are in his hands.

Thanks

Depends on the unit. Not all types provide combat shields as option for Veteran Sergeants.
Company-vets and Assaultmarines do.
So yes in 2 cases.

Target locked,ready to fire

Somewhere in the dark...

yeah, it's a company veteran. thanks for clearing it up for me.

Can I also ask about equipping the deathwing terminators?

I really want to use a cyclone missile launcher but dies that mean I can't have an assault cannon in the same squad? Im pretty sure that I can have any combination of lightning claws or TH/SS right? As many as I want.

Can the termie with the cyclone missile launcher have a TH/SS or can he take, say a SB and chainfist? Basically, am I right in thinking that per a five man squad, I can take one of, cyclone missile launcher, assault cannon or heavy flamer and any number can take lightning claws or TH/SS.

Is there a restriction on what the Assault cannon/heavy flamer/cyclone dude can take besides those heavy weapons?

Thanks

You may only have one heavy or special weapon per squad - this is indicated by the line that says 'one Terminator may take...'

Otherwise a guy with a CML can have any gear he likes.

Which begs the question: Why can't I arm my terminators with missile launchers, assault cannons, and heavy flamers all at once?

Say what you want about game balance, it would look fething awesome.

OK, ty.

So, what's better - chain fist, TH/SS or twin lightning claws?
Which CC weapons are the best 'all round' ones? I really like the idea of lightning claws but everybody seems to go for TH/SS. Then again, against vehicles, surely the chainfist is best? Attack with five of those and surely you're gonna take out even a landraider pretty quick.

P.S. Fafnir, I am reading the codex but as a Dark Angels noob and a space marine noob generally, I'm just looking for some help working out exactly what it means.

Each weapon has its strengths, they're all ideal for different situations.

Chainfist: only if you plan to see AV12+ rear armored vehicles

Thunder hammer/SS: FAQ updated the storm shield for Dark Angels to the 3++ all the time(FAQ is Here: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=1000018&pIndex=1&aId=3400019&multiPageMode=true&start=2); T-Hammers are great all around, especially when up against tanks without a rear AV of 12+ since they auto-Shake as well as whatever damage result they get(Immobilized + Shaken hurts tanks bad).

Paired Claws are great against enemy infantry; 3 attacks(4 on the charge) with re-roll to wound is nasty.

Basic SB+PF is a tactical terminator, made for move and Fire + all-round hard in CC; this is also where a Chainfist or 2 is a good idea(also where you would get the Chainfists).

The biggest strength of Dark angels is the ability to take mixed units with all of the Above.

As Kel said their greatest strength lies in that Terminators can take a mix of weapons. Note that they can still take Cyclone Missile Launchers even if they have TH/SS.

As for a general weapon, I'd go with TH/SS for Deathwing Termies. Note that one squad can be upgraded with a Standard and Apothecary. This makes the entire unit a roving death star, impervious to all but the most horrible dice rolls and can dish out an enormous amount of S8 attacks. The Banner migates the fact that you dont get the +1 for two CC weapons.

Also pop that cyclone missile launcher on a guys shoulder to be a complete jerk in combination with that command squad with the banner and apothecary as Mecha said. Just don't forget it has to be joined by Beliel to get those 2 items

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I think you meant to say "Belial must be in the army"? he doesn't have to be in the unit.

My apologies Formosa-my friend has the book and he always told me Belial must be in the unit to field that. I just took him at his word

Interesting, interesting...

So, I got my uber squad sorted thanks to you mecha emperor. In a deathwing army, do you recommend taking squads all with the same loadout or different set ups in each squad?

I really want to crack out some lightning claws and would you generally recommend a cyclone over an assault cannon?

Both the CML and assault cannon have different uses. They're both very good weapons and worth taking for different reasons.

Cyclone is better if you go assault weapon heavy, as the Assault cannon can only replace a Storm Bolter (forcing whichever terminator that uses it to only a Power Fist or Chainfist) while the Cyclone can be taken regardless of prior weapon loadout. The Cyclone is also 10 points cheaper and allows the terminator to engage heavy armour at a distance.

Also, while Beilal isnt required to be in the "command" squad, he is a good addition to it. You have to take Beilal one way or the other, and him benefiting from the +1 attack of the banner and FnP is the best way to get the most out of him.
