So following some disastrous games against my Chaos opponent, I decided to convert my 10GU squad in 2x 5Ranger squads

I bought some splinter rifles, and GSd the cloak.
This is my second ever conversion and my first time using GS, so I'd really appreciate some feedback before I do the rest of the squad (GS allowing)

Thanks

You need a hood which covers nearly the whole of the face, so it looks mysterious, and make him look like he is aiming would do wonders

Something covering the face would also give him more of a ranger look instead of just a guardian with a cloak.

Lol, at least you said cloak! I was thinking more, Guardian with blankey...

Thanks for the feedback, i think next one, will have cloak coming round the face and maybe even round the legs abit more.

What are your thoughts on the rifle? Does it say Eldar long rifle at all?

If you can get a hold of some Dire Avengers scopes and put them on it will look a lot more like a long rifle. But without them it still says "Ranger with long rifle" to me rather than Guardian with blankie and long shuriken blaster.

While most of the cloak works/looks really good, i think it needs to come lower over his right shoulder so it looks like it is anchored to something. Also agree that more of the face should be covered.

Also looking at it again, taking off the top of the backpack area might help make it look alot better too as it would fall over his back a little easier.

As for the rifle, i agree, a scope of some sort would take it from "rifle" to what i picture a ranger having.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

Here's number 2...

I think it's a bit better, looks abit more cloaky as opposed to blankey. mmmmm blankey.
Not sure if I added any mystery, but i'm out of GS now, so that'lll be it for a while.

Good shout on the targetters, i'll see if I can get hold of some.

Long rifle looks good. Certainly a suitable job depicting what it represents. The second cloak is head and shoulders above the first one. Literally. The head and shoulders are much better than the 'blankey' cloak. On the other hand, the 'blankey' cloak would be EPIC if you painted it powder blue with little duckies on it...

This is a fine conversion. Kudos.

The second cloak looks much better, more like a cloak would sit than the previous attempt.

The hood looks a little lack lustre, I'd say make it have more volume and shape, try to match to movement of the cloak further.

Simple advice is just do a google image search of real life clothing/cloaks/hoods and you'll get a much better sense for how they flow/sit and move on people.

Always worth Checking out live action roleplay pictures for this kind of thing too.

I'm liking the rifle hybrid, works for what you need quite well.

Very clean conversion. Keep up the good work.

It looks great painted. The second cape looks great and does look attached to the figure.

Looks better painted, but I agree that number 2 looks 10 times better

IMO number 2 is light years better, I think the overall job you did on the cloak for number 2 really is selling the model for me. When compared with number 1, that first cloak really just looks like some putty is laying on top of the model, the cloak in number 2 looks much more like a cloak

Thanks everyone who took the time to comment. Using GS is a big learning curve and I'm right at the bottom.
Doing "blankie guardian" did make me realise that I just had to get the cloak to go around the neck. - Deploy the nail scissors!

Anyway, in the past my colour choices have proved to be a little...erm well suspect.

Please could you comment on the colour choices?

For example have I used too many different colours? What colours might have been a better choice?

Thank you all, again, your comments are helping.

It looks well painted but the camo cloak doesn't really match the armour and it should if you're using it for camouflage as then it will blend in to the surroundings. You're perfectly right about the learning curve with greenstuff it is difficult to start with but when you know what you are doing it gets easier.
