As the title says. Pretty sure there's been about a million versions of this thread before, hell I may have created one a few years ago.
So, who is your favorite special character, playability/rules-wise, and also fluffwise? They can be the same.
For me -
Playability/rules: Ragnar Blackmane. Okay, so he's not the strongest character, and he doesn't grant some amazing army-wide boon. But in one-on-one close-combat fights, very little will stand in his way, especially when backed up with a unit or two. And the idea of his insane and vicious charges is the epitome of what makes 40k awesome. Just look at the picture for his profile in the 'dex!
Fluff-wise: Pedro. Kantor. He is definitely not the strongest physically, but his will power, determination and leadership skills are virtually second-to-none in the Space Marine chapters. He inspires those he leads to ever greater feats of badass, and he's got the Gene-seed of one of the most awesome Primarchs flowin' through him. Oh, and he's a Space Marine.
What're your choices, Dakka?

Ferocious Black Templar Castellan
|
Seeing as I play BT with a whopping 2 SCs, I don't have much of a choice. Grimaldus wins both cathegories over Helbrecht though, even though I wish that Helbrecht was viable in a list that isn't crazy. Don't get me wrong, he's pretty OK, but he's overcosted for what you get. So is Grimaldus, but his relic is gold in a black tide list.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back. |

Game wise: Lucius the eternal. Fluff wise: about all the Guard special characters, especially Col. Scheafer and Gaunt.

Lucius the Eternal is my favorite. I rarely use Special Characters, but just by looks AND backround, that dude is my favorite.
My second favorite?
Can't tell you. I really haven't read up much on any of the other codices' characters :/

Stealthy Space Wolves Scout
|
I'd have to say Rules Wise: Forgefather Vulkan He'stan from C: SM and then Fluff-Wise: It would have to be the Primarch of the XI, only because I'm designing them
|
The Rout, Vlka Fenryka, Warrior Kings of Fenris.... the Space Wolves. Horus Heresy. Sixth Great Company. 1500pts. In progress.

Deranged Necron Destroyer
|
In game there a few things as fun a running a Nightbringer Necron army. He, like the Monolith, is a beautiful centerpiece that will attract alot of fire, thereby having it not be shot at your easier to vanquish units.
For Fluff...I really like Ahriman's and Ku'gath's. Ahriman is a man damned for saving his legion, a parallel to his own primarch. Ku'gath is just a silly over-sized Nurgling so he entertains me greatly.

Fluffwise: Gabriel Seth. He's just constantly wanting to go out in a blaze of glory.
Gameplaywise: The Nightbringer. Sure, he'll probably be killed before he does damage, but if he closes the gap, he's DEVASTATING.

I have to say Marbo, because who doesn't love a silent, demo charge chucking, sniper pistol wielding hero? And plus, he can come in right behind you! There's a reason he's been in all of my lists...
