Hey all!

I've recently put together a Death Guard army, but i'm finding them so godamn exspensive! Points wise...
I only play with my older brother (I'm 23 he's 24) i don't play with anyone else due to being disabled & unable to get anywhere.

We're pretty open on checking each others codex when something sounds a little too overpowered (Hive Tyrant anyone? :p)
All my recent games have been a flop Feel No Pain is useless... (The highest roll i got in last nights game was 3) *Ouch! :/*

& I'm wondering if it'd be more 'effective' to roll with a Black Legion army due to the variety of units & cheaper Troops?
Also KB, TS, DG & NM still count as elites in a Black Legion army? Can't find anything in the codex stating them as anything but Troops.

Would really appreciate any help anyone can throw my way.

Isirith

There's no legion limitations anymore - if you want to run an army with Plague Marines, Khorne Berserkers, and Raptors with the Mark of Slaanesh with a Tzeentch Chaos Lord, there's no problem. It's kind of vanilla, unfortunately.

In other words, you can have Plague Marines and regular guys together with no issue.

I getcha'
Apart from the 'Vanilla' bit (D'oh! ^.^')

I'm think Black Legion army with normal CSM to soak up incoming fire while the Death Guard push forward
or some Thousand Sons popping up Chaos Spawns everywhere they go...

Or let's be honest i haven't really got a clue...

There is no limitation, as SRM said, so you can use whatever you want. It's also very common to have units painted in a variety of colors now. I remember one of the What's New army features being a supposed Iron Warrior Force, but most of it was painted up like Word bearers with elements of Black Legion and Red Corsairs in it.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I'd like to know how you came to the conclusion that Hive Tyrants were overpowered.

They're good, but when you consider they're 170 points before you even start putting upgrades on them it gets a tad ridiculous. Once you put a command upgrade on them and maybe a biomoprh, they're over 200 points. They'd better be good for 200+ points.

Brother usually takes a Bonesword + Some sort of lash dropping my WS, BS & Initiative to one having to wound on a 6+ i believe
is quite overpowering :p

Yeah i know "Shoot it" ^.^'

Lashwhip and Bonesword combination drops your initiative to 1 and causes instant death if you fail a leadership test on any wound taken.

Dropping your WS and BS to 1 is a completely separate ability - it's a psychic power, Paroxysm. Taking something that can negate psychic powers will stop this pretty well, though I don't know if Chaos has anything that can do it.

Nothing 'makes you' wound him on a 6+ aside from having high toughness. I believe wounding a T6 creature with S4 is a +5, but I haven't read the wound table in a while.

Again, that thing is a base cost of 170 points. It's the most expensive HQ in the game without upgrades. You would kind of expect it to be good with that points cost. And yes, you nailed it. Don't let it get into assault. As you've noticed, it's a beast in assault. Shoot it. This isn't too difficult. If it's flying, it can't get a 2+ armour save, so simple missiles will do a number on it. If it's walking, it's likely surrounded by Tyrant Guard, which makes it take a lot more concentrated fire to bring down, but it's slow as a slug in molasses, so even Death Guard should be able to move out of its assault range.

CSM needs ranged firepower, from my experience. Max Heavy Support with Obliterators is usually my starting point. Plague Marines usually need assault help from Daemon Princes. That's the cookie cutter CSM list. Princes, Oblits, and whatever troops.

Pretty much. Buy a couple Daemon Princes, 6-9 Obliterators, and some Rhinos, and your luck will change.

Iron Warriors - 4000 points (non-inflated, full FOC)
Black Crusade - 1500 points (non-inflated, led by Abaddon)
Jenen Ironclads (traitor IG/ABG) - 4000 points (non-inflated)
