I had the desire for a long time to create a dark angels army. When I took a break from the game about 6-10 months ago to finish grad school I was leading myself to believe I would jump back in when daemonhunters came out, but as my desire to play started to kick backup and grad school had ended, the change to the space marine chapters ala everything is normalized, made my excitement for the
DA even greater. I am going for an almost pure deathwing army. Possibly in the future, aka for some
apoc games, I might work on the 2nd company ravenwings. My force will primarily be terminators, with a couple of units of dreadnoughts and such.
This is a shot of them just post priming + spraying on my base color with the air brush. I am going for a bit of a darker white because I personally find that it looks better, or at least I think so.
This is a shot of what will end up being my sergeant. He has had some of his details picked out and had just had his first coat of sephia wash applied. Additionally the shot is at some distance so it is hard to make out all of the parts that I have gotten painted. All of my "metal" parts had badab black applied to them for a deeper color disparity, to contrast some of the armor.
These shots are of a couple of the members of the first squad. They show a few more details that had been picked out. In dark angels fashion, I wanted to make most of the decoration green with highlights if possible. These also show a good shot of the
FW shoulder pads. At this point all they are missing are their corresponding shields and 1 cyclone missile launcher. Each of these items are coming in the mail.
This is the apothecary for the squad. I am not sure how I feel about the extra sensor that I put up on the top of the termy armor. I my look at changing that in the next week or so. I kit bashed a bit with the pieces from the command squad apothecary kit to get the hand/servo repair kit, and some of the other medical instruments equipped on him. I did not want to do the pure white apothecary because I felt that it would not fit the unit/army motif, but I may revisit that in a little while can repaint him pure white.
This is the only model that I have had time to apply decals to. At some point I will do this to all of them, or something similar, but this was my first test case to see how it turned out and ensure that I like the color scheme.
This show shows the banner and several more details on my squad sergeant. As you can see it is also following the green iconography that I started earlier.
A couple of things to note, I am still waiting on my custom shields so that I can equip them with their storm shields. I chose to use a lightning claw hand, minus the claws to have a larger more sturdy army for a shield arm. These guys are suppose to be hulking on the battle field so I felt it was needed to make them look just right. Additionally, I have a standard that I am putting together for one of them to carry at some point as well, but I will address that at a later date once I have had time to hit them with a hobby drill and put them in place.
The only question that I have had since starting this is scroll writing. I have looked and not found any articles on ways to make it look more "authentic" but alas I have not found any. Does anyone have any suggestions to make it look better. I thought possibly getting an ultra fine point pen and doing it in that fashion, but I fear scraping the paint so any suggestions there are welcomed, and for that matter any others as well.
Thanks for looking
