So, in an effort to put to the test what 1000 points of footslogging Orks can actually do (considering my fairly receient introduction to 40k)
I put the following list together and fielded it against 1k of my friends Necrons. He was running two units of warriors, a lord with orb and cloak, five destroyers, and a monolith.
My list.
HQ
Big Mek w/ KFF and cybork body, Burna
115
Troops
23 Slugga Boyz w/2xrokkit; Nob w/PK and BP.
23 Slugga Boyz w/2xrokkit; Nob w/PK and BP.
23 Slugga Boyz w/2xrokkit; Nob w/PK and BP.
612
Heavy Support
Killa Kans x2 - Grotzooka
Killa Kans x2 - Grotzooka
Killa Kans x2 - Grotzooka
270
Total 997
What happened was this, I charged him (using cover when I could) for two rounds while the monolith dropped pie plates on my troops, the destroyers stayed outside of my firing range and picked apart my trailing troop of boys (flanked!) and the two troops of warriors rapid fired me till I was able to assault, I wiped one of thie units of warriors then engaged the second unit with the lord. they then proceeded to kite me around the board using the lords cloak negating my biggest strength (CC) by always being JUST out of assault reach. Mean while the destroyers pummeled me from range. Fight went all the way to round seven when he won by kills.
Lesson learned?
Bring some transports.
But that leaves me with some questions. What happens when you disembark and then the Necrons teleport out the next round?
They were always an inch or two outside my assault range.

Your list has the right idea, but some wargear adjustments would help you out. Kan Wall Orks are perfectly capably of winning without transports.
Slogging Boys squads should have Shootas. 18" range Assault 2 is very good, especially when you're spitting out 46 shots. This would allow you to put down some enemy models attempting to kite you and give your Orks a much larger threat range.
Kans should have Rokkits. Not only would that have given you SOMETHING to shoot at the Monolith if your Kans had no other targets, but more importantly it would have threatened his Destroyers and Destroyer Lord a lot more with the higher strength hits.
At 1k points, a list like yours should be able to overwhelm with numbers. However, if you're having issues reaching out and touching your opponent, may I offer the 70 pt Rokkit/Saw Deffkopta? 1st Turn charges of enemy units like Destroyers can prevent them shooting a turn or two until you get close enough for your Boys and Kans to do damage.

I'm a dedicated footslogger player, and I agree that 1000pts is a tough band. Necrons are also a resilient opponent, and if Orks have a weakness it's that they lose their vital momentum easily.
At 1500 points you're in for a much smoother ride - your numbers really begin to shine. When you bump it up to 1500 max out at least three boyz units, drop two of those cans and trade them in for Lootas or an 'Ard boy upgrade. Replacing one of those mobs with Shoota boyz would be great but if you're like me you went ahead and just built over a hundred Slugga boyz when you started your army.
I've got fifty shoota boys cut from their sprues and ready to glue for this very reason.
One unit I have been using successfully so far is a mob of 10-12 boyz in a Trukk with shootas to support my slugga horde. They can sit on an objective and/or provide fire support - 20-25 shots is not to be sniffed at. It does break the footslogging theme a bit but I'm of the firm opinion that a little bit of hybridisation is very important for Orks. Their strength is that they have many strengths, but they are all somewhat unreliable or flimsy and really need to hit hard to make it count.
If you're a new 40k player you're going to take some time to get used to the momentum of the game. It's easy to see what your advantages over another army can be, but you won't truly appreciate your weaknesses until you've had them fully exploited by several different types of army.
Against the Necron player here I'd recommend dropping two Kans for a small unit of Tankbustas with hammers to trade places with a cheap mob of shoota boyz in a trukk - otherwise the 'Kans are all you have to deal with that Monolith - the Grotzookas are your only anti-infantry firepower and are better deployed against the 'crons! The tankhammers also hit hard in normal CC and cause instant death, denying WBB (unless the Orb is in play)!
When it comes to the Necrons combat resolution is key. With the Monolith at least spending a turn or two picking tankbustas out of its teeth (even if they don't kill it) you will smash harder into melee with more boyz as a result of their distraction. You can probably afford to spread out more, making the late-game into less of a desperate chase.

I would lose the upgrades on the big mek. And drop the rokkits in your boys squads. your boys get one shot with bs 2 while your kans get 2 shots at bs3. Makes sense right. Boys should be shootas, you need that option facing necrons and really the only time I'd use sluggas if they were in trukks. You may be better off maxing out your boys squads and then get a squad of lootas for that fire support. Something like this Big Mek-kff 85pts 5 Lootas 75pts (5 lootas 75pts ) 30 Shoota boys -nob PK BP 220pts 30 Shoota boys -nob PK BP 220pts 3 Killa Kans rokkits 150pts 3 Killa Kans rokkits 150pts (2 Killa Kans rokkits 100pts) The ones in brackets are your option one or the other. hope this helps. You have spare points then add big shootas to you boys if you like. If your opponent had a brain that tank busta unit would be dead right away. Not a very good use of pts IMO. Ignore the lith.

My original list had Lootas, 5 or 10 depending on the load out, but I was concerned that they would be too easy pickings for the destroyers.
If that a valid worry?
And thanks all for the feed back.

Your lootas should be good if they are in cover and can still shoot. Plus a first turn of shooting can ruin a destroyers day

One of the things that I was really fighting with was bottle necked terrain.
Almost all the openings forced the boyz to stretch their lines too thin.
Maddening!

I just played against my nephew last week end in a similar scenario. My Orks, him Necrons. We played a couple different games but the last one was 1k points. I used to be a trukk boyz player and it was fun, but Im liking the aspect of boyz shooting. So Ive been slowly changing my horde to be a shooty build. So naturally I took 3 x21 shoota boyz mob with usual loadout. We ignored the phase out rule (its so much tougher) and I have to say, even though I took out a unit of his warriors in an assault, the most damage was done with Ork shooting. Its surprising how much lead (or dirt/nails) they can throw out. Also as a new Ork player, your going to have to learn how and when to use your WAAAGH! that can be a very potent tool in your build. I dont use it all the time, but there has been times where a well placed WAAAGH! gives me the upper hand. Also you dont HAVE to drop the gear on your BigMek. If your build can afford it go with it, I will load my BigMeks up just like that if I have the points, and they have caused ALOT of damage like that. I also load out the boyz mobs with rokkits. I love to spam rokkits personally. Having a PK and 2 rokkits in a mob is just great. Every mob becomes far more dangerous that way

I have yet to try a shooty Ork list. I'm tempted to after that embarrassing loss.
Typically I just live for that initial Waaagh assault.
I love the look on my friends faces when I start rolling 80 WS 4 Str 4 CC hits.
