hi im going to start a grey knight army when they come out cause i love the grey knights. but i dont want to do the standard grey or silver im doing more of a blood red with a black wash on it. i love how it looks so far. but my only issue is im not entirely sure what to paint all the small details like the books and scrolls and etching. im doing the mostly in gold but i feel that it looks tacky when every little detail is gold. any advice on how to make it look awesome?

White, black, bronze and gunmetal look good with red IMHO

then again i am biased, my grey knights are also red ;D

i had a friend paint a test model and its blood red with a black wash it looks awesome its alot darker than just red and has alot fo black to it. the details are mostly gold but i dont want every detail to be gold. what did you paint certain things like the pauldrons and etchings and the book on his waist?

If you're doing them in red, take a look at Blood Angels pictures. Seeing how the details on those figures are done will go a long way to helping you with yours.

well mine isnt a good comparison, my grey knights are gunmetal grey, with some mithril drybrushed, and then a million coats of baal red wash until they are sort of a metallic red/purple.

then I do all the details, the runes all go bronze, the seals and book are white with then brown wash overtop, ect. ect.

here's what I do for my admech models.
Black prime -> drybrush mechanite red heavily over the model -> wash heavily -> drybrush a tiny bit of red overtop, end result is this:

you have the black base coat showing through in deep recesses, most of the model is the dark washed red, and the very edges become unwashed red and highlight a little bit.
Its the easiest way ive figured out to get alot of depth from my models, please note though that I suck at painting and have been improving dramatically lately, but a golden daemon is nowhere near my future, ever XD

my grey knight is here, on the left incase you wanted to zoom in and see my paint scheme (i can try and take a better pic if needed)
