As the title says, is it worth the points to add a Pyrocaster to a unit of flamers?

They get +1 BS for 15 points.

I say yes, they will likely get to shoot every turn they are alive with the ability to move 12 and still fire. The 30 inch threat range is pretty solid and even with a -2 modifer still allowing shots to hit home.

The only differnce is an increase of the BS by 1 over normal flamers for 15pts.

All range unit champs are +1BS, but as soon as they start costing 8+ pts thats a sign they ain't worth it, also skirmishers rarely benefit from having a champ.

Normally, I'd agree with this, but I think that Flamers are the exception. This is mainly because it's not like the pyrocaster is shooting a single S3 shot(like most archer units) with his improved BS, but d6 S4 shots. Seems like a good investment to get more S4 hits in.

It could be argued both ways, i just think getting another flamer for cheaper and spending the pts elswhere might be more helpfull to the army as a whole. Spending too much on what is basically a harassment unit is usually unwise.

Maybe it's just the local meta, but I practically never see flamers in less than units of 6. It freaking ridiculous to be honest. Might as well throw in the +1BS guy to get some more hits in at that point.

I really hate it to be honest. The unit really has no weak point to really exploit.

My one unit of Flamers at a tourney, did so well for me that I am adding a second unit for 'ard boyz.

First game- They killed a Daemon Prince in a single round of shooting.

2nd game- goblin hero chairiot, two war machines, 3 trolls.

3rd game two dwarf war machines.

4th game unit of pistolers, Hellblaster volley gun.

5th game- destroyed unit of repeater crossbow men, causing hydra to flee off table, finished off a unit of black guard and made a block of spearmen flee on last turn of game.

I wouldn't know to be honest, everyone I play seems to have an inate fear of Flamers; the second they poke their heads out they get hammered by anything in range usually destroying the unit.

Also I tend to have a crummy memory in regards to this sort of thing, so it depends whether you can keep track of the fact you have to roll a seperate D6 for the pyrocaster when they shoot.

If brute force isn't the answer, it's only because you aren't using enough of it.
