Hi everyone.
So I was playing around with my old metal Raveners last night and I decided I wanted them to look a lot more like the current Plastic ones do with the multiple Scything talons instead of just the one giant set they have and holding a devourer. Problem is I didn't have any talon arms in my bitz box. I did however have a good number of spinefists that I'm sure I wont be using any time soon. So I figured how hard can it be to convert them to scything talons? Not that hard it turns out.
First I clipped away a few pieces from the arm then smoothed the areas out with a knife and metal file. The red lines show where to cut...
Then I took a piece of thick plasticard and cut it to the shape of the scything talons of a Warrior. Using a gator clip to hold it , I filed the edges to a blade edge on the lower part and flat on the top. I used my knife to cut out some notches in the blade edge. I also curved the end that would meet the fist so it would fit at the angle I wanted. Using Plasticweld cement I glued the blade to the fist, letting the plastics kind of meld into each other.
And the end result was pretty satisfying.
Now you can vary the size of the blades or even cut more of the fist off to make the base of the talon smaller if you want to. Adding some greenstuff to the transition would look nice too. A simple conversion with convincing results don't you think?

Good job!
Most Tyranid players have about a ton of spinefists lying around.

Thanks guys. I actually refined the process a bit by cutting the little armor plate on top clean off, putting those aside and clipping more of the fist off higher up past the knuckles. Taking a file and filing a notch groove into the middle of the fist for the blade to slide into then re glueing the armor plate back on top of the blade. They look even better than the first one. I'll post a pic tonight of the 6 sets I made. I also found using a pliers and a dremel to grind the edges of the blade works great too.
