I am currently building a Mech Vet list and am finding it very annoying that the kits don't include Melta and Plasma guns.

I don't want to buy the metal special weapons troopers.

Does anyone have any advice on where to get suitable weapons?

I just checked the warstore and they have the Command squads all bitzed out to individual pieces, including the special weapons. Not sure the price is right though as each weapon seeme d to range in price from 0.99$ for the flamer to $8.99 for a melta gun. Maybe, hopefully, thats a typeo. They have the Catachans bits out as well.

They are in the US too so shipping costs might be a bear. Not sue about where to look in Europe.

GW sells 5 Melta or 5 Plasma for $8.00. They are metal but easy to work with and generally much cheaper than bitz stores.

Oh and the price for melta is not a typo. That's how Bitz stores make money; premium prices for in demand bitz.

@Pretre I was just going to suggest that as well I thought they sold "conversion packs" for weapons!

This is the same problem I had and here is what I did:

I took the flamers from each IG infantry sprue, and chopped the end off, and apended it to the end of a SM bolter. then I shaved and cut the middle section of the bolter to receive GS and sculpted the heatsink there. I filed the back end a little bit to accept a lasgun power-pack and did some faddling with the magazine--cutting it off and filing it down a little. It looks similar to the current plasma guns, less the shoulder rest/stock, merely a different pattern. Transfer the sickle mag to the lasgun and you have TWO custom-weapons.
The meltagun was more annoying because I'm a miserable scultpr. I added green-stuff to the end of the flamer and tried to approximate the melta-gun look. I failed to get it round and in my frustration I went for a box look; replicated the slits either side and added another slit on the top. As things went it was cheaper than trying to find 6 plasma guns and 6 melta guns, and I must have done SOMETHING right because it earned a few appreciative looks.

eBay is sometimes a good place to grab the odd gun here or there but you can pay 50p a gun plus P+P
