What is the biggest drawback to using the AoBR Terminators to build up an army? I want to get a few squads of Terminators to make a small Deathwing force and, as far as I can see, the only real drawback to using them is the little bits that stick out where you would normally glue the arms on. But they can be snipped off easily.
Aside from putting cyclone missile launchers or banners on the top, which would be the only real difficulty I can see, does anyone out there see any huge drawbacks to using them? You can find them on ebay really cheap as well as weapon sprues or should I avoid them and get hold of some of the proper boxes?

If you're doing Deathwing, the "limited selection" is not much of a disadvantage. A fancy power sword, a dressed-up storm bolter, and a cool looking assault cannon are included with the upgrade sprue set. If you're looking to make assault terminators, either get the bitz from an online supplier or buy the assault box itself.

Yeah, I have a TH/SS sprue ordered and a Lightning Claw sprue ordered, too plus the DA upgrade sprue so the only thing I need to get hold of is a good supply of Cyclone missile launchers - anyone know where to get 3 or 4 at once?
Also, any tips for sticking them on the tops of the AoBR Terminators (and banners) would be greatly appreciated. Think I may invest in a couple of squads if I can find them cheap enough - saw one yesterday for about £11 so I'm sure I'll be able to find more at that pice (I hope).

Hmm, use glue and put the missile launcher on top? I think I can infer that the current terminators have an attachment point for the cyclone launcher? If so you can do fine without it, we never had any fancy attachment aids in the metal terminator days! Why we just glued that launcher on top and we were happy to have it! At least until that termy took a hit and started spinning off missiles in all directions...
You kids and your fancy pants plastic models...
But seriously, I have a couple of missile launchers from IG sentinels that I think may make very interesting alternate cyclones

It may be more cost effective to buy A Termie Assault Squad box, then online to get an extra set of legs, bodies, heads, and shoulder pads. The parts can be gotten for less than half the price of the Termie box. This lets you use all the TH/SS and LCs in the kit.
Then you can use the AOBR Termies as standard ones to fill out your Deatwings (unless you plan on going all LC, TH/SS units).

The Aobr terminators are compatible with normal boxed arms (just clip the thingies) and even compatible with front chest plates if you want to use different heads .
Ive got 21 termies in my collection (15 boxed, 5 aobr, 1 WD) and they've got magnetised arms so I can switch their gear, works perfectly .

The Assault Terminator box comes with 10 sets of arms, 5 Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield sets, and 5 lightning claw sets. So with AOBR terms, and a box of Assault terminators, you should have a good mix of weapons and such for what you want to do. Then you just need to source a heavy weapon or two.

Just remember that you don't have 10 spare shoulderpads for the other set of weapons from Assault box. So you have to get them via bitz store or just chop off the bolters/powerfists from Aobr and use that.

If you're careful with the knife, you can cut off the arms at the lower elbow joint, where the cable attaches to the hand. That lets you seemlessly join one of the TH/SS or LC arms there.

I have used AoBR termies for my Assault Termies for my Fallen Angels Army. It ran me about $18? I got the AoBR termies for $10 shipped off of Ebay and I purchased the TH/SS Bits from a fellow Dakkanaut, which ran me about $8. Pretty good deal, a bit of GS & some DA stuff made them pretty BA looking to me.

Heh, I ordered some TH/ SS and LC off ebay. The LC arrived and only then did I realise about needing shoulderpads I'm sure the same will be true when my TH/ SS arrive. Now I've got to shop about for shoulderpads. Annoyingly, since they're deathwing, that won't be quite so easy but I may just settle for any normal shoulderpads I can get hold of.
All the stuff about cutting the arms and magnetising kind of scares me since I don't want to wreck my models but I sure do like the idea of magnetising as it could save a heck of a lot of money in the long run.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-34801-11831_Aobr%20Terminator%20Chaplain%20Wip.html That's my Terminator Chaplain, made with an arm swap of the TH arm in place of his stormbolter. It's not as hard it seems. You just need a sharp knife and a steady hand. Some GS to fill the gap also helps. Since the Thunder Hammer was one from before GW changed their plastic formula (and thus being lighter) you can see where the joint is made. it's easily duplicated on the other arm as well.

like most everyone has already mentioned, limited poses, the fact that they seem slightly smaller than normal terms could also be a factor. Other than that, there isnt much different about them....they are still terminators

I have magnetizing kits for both flavours of Terminators available right now:

I wouldn't recommend cutting the arms, but swapping complete arms and shoulder pads is a doddle.

You don't even need to clip off the stubs on the aobr termies to use regular termie arms.
You could always drill corresponding sockets in the arms which will help with aligning them and allow you to get some rotation in as well.

Moved to the US about 14 years ago. That's why shipping costs are a big deal to me - used to get shafted buying stuff from the states when I lived in England, then got it the other way when I moved over here.
