So on page 31 there is a stipulation about Unique spells and old codex magic. it says that their text contains any casting restrictions that apply. Begin a WoC play most of my spells are described like this.
1) Pick a unit.
2) Is it within 24in.
3) If so unleash thy choas magic upon them.
Note a few of my spells (nurgle for example) DO have limitations on weather or not you can cast if a unit is in close combat, forward arc, or LoS.
I know it sounds broken but according to that i can cast a majority of my spells (and other books spells mind you) with my only limitation being range. Is this right?

Well I think that you really need to look at the spell's discription to see if you can cast it. For example, Lash is called a magic missle and the BRB says that magic missiles cannot be cast into combat.
The tricky ones are ones like buboes, which works like a direct damage spell, but it does not state that. If you are going to play RAW, then I suppose that you could cast that into combat, but I think that if a spell functions in a certian way then it should have those limitation.
For example (going back to buboes), buboes works and has pretty much the exact same affect as the signature death spell, spirit leach, and it is called a direct damage spell. So, I believe that buboes should be treated like a direct damage spell and cannot be cast into combat.
Others may disagree, but this is how I see it.

The magic restrictions on pg 31 apply to the 4 types of spells. If it doesn't have a type, the spell will contain the casting restrictions. pg 31 last paragraph of choosing a target.
Some believe you still have to follow the 4 restrictions, some believe you don't.
Until GW FAQs it, who knows.

The rulebook says that if its spell type allows it to be cast into combat, you can cast it into combat. If it doesn't, you can't.
Gateway has no spell type and therefore cannot be cast into combat.
The "spell description will contain any restrictions" language is not a blanket permission to ignore all the normal rules of using magic.
