So the local GW is going to run a WotR league as part of the league, you can challenge the staff on Thursdays and they will run the Gorgoroth Horde battlehost. The league starts a 1k points and increases to 1500. I have no idea how to fight the Hoard.

I had a good idea, The Tainted and Saruman in a formation of largish morannon orcs to land in front of the Horde and Witchking on a fellbeast in the back to keep it from charging(Terror test with no hero courage at -2 and Saruman's rule) and have Saruman pound it with magic.

Then I realized that I'd be spending a good 840 points to mitigate a 260ish formation and still have the rest of the army to deal with.

Models I currently have:

9 Companies of Morannon Orcs(can be used as Angmar/Mordor Orcs instead, but no bows)
7 Companies of Spectral Hosts
3 Companies of Ghostly Legion
2 Companies of The Court of the Fallen Kings
2 Shades
The Necromancer
Winged Nazgul(Magnetized to be witchking or other)
The Tainted
The Dwimmerlaik
Khamul the Easterling
The Witchking
Gothmog
Gollum
Bhurdur
Gulhavar, the Terror of Arnor
Saruman
Grima

I'd prefer not to spend much more money, if any. Thanks.

You don't beat the hoard, you steal the hoard. You beat the horde.

Yes, I am that guy

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The only time I've ever seen the Gorgoroth horde on the table, it ran smack into a unit with Aragorn, Dain, and Gandalf. +1 to hit from Orcbane and +2 from Anduril meant that Dain never missed on his rampage... 12 stands of orcs gone in one turn.

Of course, this doesn't help in your case.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Ugh.

Its going to be tough. You are using forces that require finesse against a force that has all the subtlety of a sledge hammer.

So with that I am going to have to say that the best advice to your question is "very carefully".
