I watched last weeks episode of NCIS, which is a show I've always thought made a greater effort to be logical than most other shows, in which Gibbs tries to stop a computer from automatically hacking into the Pentagon. As avid watchers of that show knows, Gibbs isn't exactly a computer geek, so to stop it, he tries to execute it with his gun. That's fine. He throws a lot of lead into the air, and most of the equipment was hit, including the computer itself, but also a lot of the screens which is more or less fine, because he's obviously not that good a shot. However, suddenly one of the surviving screens does the standard horror flick trick of coming back alive when you thought it was dead, and here comes my source of contention. He executes that single screen and thereby stops the computer and saves the day. OH MY GOD!!! I know this happens in loads of other movies and series, but I really really thought the creators of NCIS were smarter than this. Do they really think the screen is the computer and that the big box on the floor is just a dvd-drive? I honestly can't believe anyone could be THAT stupid. Do you get annoyed by stuff like this?

I don't take NCIS all that seriously to be honest.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

I don't know about those computers but my computer case claims to be bullet proof.

I'm guessing it was made that way for just such a situation.

NCIS is not accurate, if you watch the background for their version of 'Oceana' it has hills. After going to a few Air Shows and frequenting the bowling Alley on the actual Oceana I am free to say that there are no hills on Oceana, at all. There aren't even any molehills to make mountains out of.

'Okay NCIS Actor dude, in this scene you need to stop the computer from automatically hacking into the pentagons mainframe'.

'Okay Director person where do you want me'.

'By that power switch over there, when I call action I want you to flick it to the off position, okay?'

'...................'

'ACTION'........ 'okay people thats a wrap, next scene we go to the DOJ to obtain a warrant to to get access to some ISPS info, I want lots of legal mumbo jumbo and a few months of your time, we gots to be real people!'.

IT's a fun show, a nice little police/detective drama. Key word there is drama.

My roommate was watching it last week and I heard the line "She has highest score in all the most popular massively multiplayer online games!".

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

If you're gonna start picking apart shows as poor quality as NCIS i would start with the awful acting, terrible script and cookie cutter plots. Remember NCIS is for the 'Less educated' demographic who enjoy problems being solved by shooting/threatening people/things with a firearm: ''gotta shoot da 'puter to stop Da nasty 'puter virus'' and what's an easy/cool way to show a 'puter being shot? The screen blowing up, with sparks naturally.

Are we watching the same show?

I regard it as a comedy drama, somewhat like the British shows New Tricks or Midsomer Murders, though with an American styleee of course.

I watch it on Channel Five if I haven't got anything better to do in the evening. Same for CSI: Wherever.

Actually NCIS is the military version of CSI. You also have to think about the character's background, Gibbs is a retired marine so he likes to shoot stuff. Abby and Timothy McGee are the computer geeks.

Just found out that NCIS is actually a spin-off of JAG.

JAG was okay, but I think NCIS is better. Dunno, I enjoy watching it more, and the characters feel more likable. Or maybe I'm just more mature now than I was back when I watched JAG.

You only JUST found this out?

The slow one in the class, were you?

You shoot the computer screen to stop it working.
This is what most of the 'normal' people out there believe from movies and tv.

TV writers themselves just write stuff that sells to them.

Try watching it as a drinking game.
Every time they do something they can't do irl, take a shot.
Every time Gibbs smacks someone across the back of the head, another shot.

You'll stop caring about the ridiculousness of it soon after.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
