Hi there,

Just wondering whether anyone could tell me which IA volume the rules for the Chimera turret mounted AC are?

(alternatively, the cost in tau firewarriors would be greatly appreciated)

cheers

cK

Its a 5 point upgrade.

Keep in mind that you need to play the Armoured Battlegroup armylist in order to use it.

It is not an option in a regular IG army.

I don't think many people will complain if you switch out a multilaser for an autocannon for 5 points.

You really don't think so?

I think the difference is huge. +12" range (36->48), +1 str. (6->7), +2 AP (6->4) and then one less shot (3->2).....for 5 points that is a steal.
With the quantities that IG can field them in, it becomes even worse. Frankly I cannot imagine anybody not upgrading had they the option.

If I could pay 5pts for an autocannon on my chimeras in regular games, I would probably be the happiest gamer ever. Seriously though, with 6+ chimeras starting at 1500pts, thats a lot of autocannons.

That and it looks absolutely badass compared to the other chimera turrets.

The only units in the codex that currently do have the option of using multilasers or autocannons charge 5 points for the upgrade, and frankly the Guard aren't exactly short on places to put autocannons.

I agree - autocannons beat multilasers down. It's a real shame this option isn't available to play in tournaments, but i guess chimera spam lacks subtlety - I mean, load em up with a unit of vets with grenade launchers and a second AC, you have a transport that pours out more high strength AP 4 shots than a predator destructor (main battle tank) for around 170 points...!!!

I posted this cos I have been building an SAS themed army and want to play test it with my mates - the turret AC looks way more badass!!!

Look at the IA PDF update chimera options.

Not so much. The Multilaser is better against AV10, almost as good against AV11, the AC's effectiveness against AV13 is relegated to "desperation shooting", and the Multilaser is better against anything that has a 2+/3+/5+/6+sv or is 4+armor in cover, isn't AV12 (or 13 if you want to go there) and isn't specifically T8 or T10.

The AC's only real advantage over the ML is the extra 12" range (not huge over 36" and especially on cheap mobile platforms) and increased effectiveness against AV12 and 4+sv infantry not in cover. Against every other target, the Multilaser is equal or superior. For a roughly 10% cost increase in an army that already generally reaches the point of diminishing returns with autocannon/anti-AV12 fire and thrives on attrition, it's a nice option to have but definitely not a no-brainer hands down option for Chimeras at 5pts.

As an IG treadhead with 16 chimeras and 7 AC turrets, I'm not hugely impressed with the option. It's cool (and looks *awesome*), and has its uses, but there's more to 6 of my 7 AC turrets still being in their FW bags after 2 years unassembled and unpainted besides simply the fact that it's an FW option.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Exactly, when firing on Marines, 6 chimeras just cost 30 points more and you only gained the range (and 36" is enough to find a target most times) and lost 6 shots.
