I've been interested in building a renegade army as I love painting and modeling rather unique armies.

I'm not sure on whether or not renegade is any diffrent from normal guard and I'm wanting a few pointers on them. mainly gaming wise.

I am not sure what dex they would count as.

I suspect FW has a book on them but I don't know which 1.

Atm I am really just wanting to paint them. But later I might use them at my flgs so any tips on how they work would be apreciated.

There is an online renegade guard list posted in FW's downloadables section. It's largely the same as the normal guards with a few randomized options.

Generally, the Imperial Guard codex is the best option, as it's tournament legal and there's alot of ways you can represent the various Renegade-count-as characters.

Thanks for that MechaEmperor7000

I have to say the FW renegade army list has some cool options but limits on tanks.

I might go with the IG codex.

But at least I can download the renegade army list for free if I want to use it.

Forge world downloadable stuff tends to be not that well balanced, it's either really in your favour or really in your opponent's favour. I actually am planning a LatD-style Guard army using Mutants to fill out my Infantry Platoons (which are cheaplly made from a combination of Guard, Marauders of Chaos, Zombies, and Orks) and renegades really gives you a chance at converting and kitbashing. My Pask is actually a mechanical Daemon head, and the entire army is led by Strakken, a Mutant chaos champion.

Post some pics when you make it

I would love to see what the mutants look like.

Lol. Currently I have the following projects before it:

Nurgle Rotting Land Raider

Ork Sprue Power Klaws (when my hand recovers from the sprue-harvesting)

Genestealer army.

Probably not gonna do mutants anytime soon. However if you can find a copy of the Eye of Terror Codex, you can get some inspiration for Traitor Guards.
