Can the malantai's siphon spirit ability be negated by a psychic hood? (if your opponent passes a psychic test, roll a dice, if you get higher then you negate the effect), however the siphon spirit activates without having to do a psychic test as far as I know.

For some reason, I totally read the title as "Doom of malaria's syphilis..."

But the answer is no, it's not a psychic power (hence the big pre-FAQ argument about whether its ability could be used on models in transports) and does not need a psychic test, so a psychic hood or equivalent has no effect.

In the same way as psychic hoods cannot negate Warlock powers you cannot negate DoM Spirit Leech - no psychic test is made.

Cataclysm is the only psychic power the Doom of Malantai has, and so the only one that will be affected by psychic defenses. Spirit Leech, Absorb Life and Psychic Strength can't be stopped.

I think Zoot just really short-handed the Hood test. By roll a dice I assume he meant, you both roll a dice, the rest he said correctly; also the parenthetical for how the Hood works was from a SM players perspective.

spirit leach is not a psychic ability. Its a moot point.
