I currently have six koptas and from the get go I thought they were better than Buggies.
I've been reading here and there and it seems buggies may have their place as well.
I'm not really sure WHAT the buggie strat is though and was wondering if anyone who uses them
with any great affect could talk to me about your approach?
I've figured out some really great kustom conversions I can do for rokkit buggies and would love to build em
up and use em.

Looking at the codex, it seems like upgrading to a Wartrakk would be an exellent way to run these.
Being able to get around Ork's poor BS and getting that template...seems fun.

I think buggies are great. They have a 10 armor and they are very fast. Normal infantry can not hurt these unless they want to waste their grenade. They are fast open topped vehicles so they can move 18. Also moving like that you need a 6 to even hit them. the upgarde are scorcha's which they get to reroll DT rolls. Also the 5str 4ap templete kicks ass on most. I did a few scratch builds on these using deffkoptas.

I like Wartrakks more, rerolling Dangerous Terrain and all. But they are great. Most people wont waist bolts on them or assault them with a full squad if it moved 13", red paint, as long as you have something, seemingly, scarier to them on the board. Now a Space Wolf player might split fire with his fangs to take one out so keep that in mind.

What do you guys generally do with them?
Off the bat I'd want to flank with them and really put a hurting on some infantry.
Say Second round rush?

yeah, I use them to crack vehicles, take out speeders or template their rear shooting units.

I find their best use is as a fast- as- hades annoyance unit.

I generally use rokkit buggies to crack open rhinos and similar, forcing the occupants to footslog

Flame-buggies are awesome against bugs (as long as you're careful not to get mobbed) and are good for clearing those annoying eldat pathfinders out of their 2+ cover save...

Flooding the field with poor-quality vechiles is one of the great things about the Ork army IMO. Lots of rokkit buggies can snipe IC, pop transports, zoom around for back armour and, if they move fast, can soak up surprising amounts of firepower. I once had a squadron of 3 that were assaulted by a dreadnought, it exploded one, then next turn I drove around to his rear armour and ripped him to shreds with a poorly aimed fussillade of rokkit fire
