Im currently running a space wolves army and just had a quick question.

Can I use a Stormraven Gunship with them. I asked at my local GW and got told that any Marine army can use them.

Just wanted to make sure as im having a big game this Sunday and want to use one.

Thanks for any and all replies.

In many cases, no you can't. As they aren't an option from your codex. In friendly games it would be stretching it as long as your opponent was fine with it. And to be honest, sounded like your store just wanted to get a few more boxes off the shelves so told you what you wanted to hear.

There are arguments for and against but it boils down to no, not really. You can if your opponent agrees but otherwise no.

That sucks. O well. Seeing as its only a lil friendly match then it doesn't matter so much. Ill double check with my mate who works at a GW im going to on the 10th for a match with someone. Atleast he won't try to fob me off

My space wolf codex must be missing the pages with the Stormraven entry on it...

But being a jerk aside, how often do you see GW making an entirely new model for existing codices and putting in an addendum to include it in?

They do sometimes...
Eldar Nightspinner for example.
The thing is it doesn't actually say in the WD article that you can use it in other codeci...

It's not entirely a new model though, it's an extra bit for the fire prism

It is a new unit entry into an existing codex. You're being pedantic.

Technically it's a migration of an existing unit from Imperial Armour into an official unit. However that case isnt really related since there were rules for the Nightspinner prior, and it didnt really migrate between armies, just from books and legal status.

In short: No you cant unless its a friendly game and you're allowed by your opponent OR if its some "House Rule" that applies for all games run by your shop.

Also, I think some other chapters will get the SR sooner or later. However, I doubt that the SW is one of those chapters due to the SW fluff talking about them not being too fond of flying/teleporting.

Hahaha, I like

We love what we love. Reason does not enter into it. In many ways, unwise love is the truest love. Anyone can love a thing because. That's as easy as putting a penny in your pocket. But to love something despite. To know the flaws and love them too. That is rare and pure and perfect.

I don't see why they would post its rules up in White Dwarf if it isn't intended for other marine armies because its just a waste of a page then.

Though would have been nice if they had actually specified. After all its not unique to the Blood Angels like the Baal Predator so I wouldn't see why it couldn't be used by any other marine army. Even the SW, they may not like flying but they still use Thunderhawks so don't see why they wouldn't have Stormravens. I mean yeah the general consensus is an overall B A Baracus attitude towards it but I'm sure it would still be used just maybe not as extensively

Personally, if you still have the kit boxed up, I would return it to the store. If you get trouble, demand to speak to the manager, and tell him that a certain employee misled you to believe that the Stormraven can be used by space wolves. Its not a space wolf unit!

Stormraven is a unit only available to blood angels. Yes, you could use one with opponents permission in a friendly game, but it really sets a bad precidence. If you are using a storm raven with your army, then im taking monoliths for my codex marines, with wave serpents to transport my marines.

This may end up as a sort of "Land Raider Crusader" thing, where it slowly becomes standard for all armies. However, until it is actually printed saying that any chapter can use the Storm Raven, only the Blood Angels and the Grey Knights can use it outside of Apocalypse.

I think you may be right mecha and GW should clarify for certain.

I dont see how it is a bad precedence tho scubasteve, not if its been agreed I mean at the end of the day its all a bit of fun and they are still marines so meh its cool. And plus its a cool kit to have around in general lol

Or it might end as a sort of Baaln Predator thing, still only avaible for Blood Angels, just because Blood Angels do everything better than other Marine without their many flaws.

Because with readily available rules, the Stormraven is usable by anyone in Apocalypse games.

It's not really a matter of whether or not other Chapters would use them fluffwise... Regular Marines have all sorts of options not available to Dark Angels or Black Templars, solely because they have a newer codex. Whether or not other Chapters have those options fluff-wise has little bearing on playing the game until an update adds those options in for the other chapters.

Ahhh fair enough. Shame really though I guess it also leaves GW with the option to state it as part of other codices if they wanna

They could have done that, it would have made sense. However, they didn't.
