My firends Necron list.
Lord with orb and cloak.
Two units of warriors.
Five destroyers.
Monolith

Against my new list.

Playing tonight.

HQ
Big Mek w/ KFF and cybork body, BP, Burna
120

Troops
19 Slugga Boyz w/2xrokkit; Nob w/PK and BP.
19 Slugga Boyz w/2xrokkit; Nob w/PK and BP.
360

Elites
5x Lootas
5x Lootas
150

Fast Attack:
Deffkopta w/ buzzsaw
Deffkopta w/ buzzsaw
120

Heavy Support:
Killa Kans x2 - Rokkits
Killa Kans x2 - Rokkits
Killa Kan - Rokkits
250

Total 1000

Deffkoptas are there to tie up the destroyers, Mini Kan wall escorts the boyz up to the warriors, firing on the monolith.
Boyz of course, phase out the Necrons through infantry losses.

I lost last weekend because destroyers were kiting my boyz all over the field laying waste to them with long range AP fire.
I never could catch them. Alternately, I was thinking of running shoota boyz.
I've never ran shootas though. Do you hang back and shoot, or do you shoot till your in assault and then assault?
Also, how many CC attacks do Shoota boyz get? I was counting three on the charge, two otherwise.

3 on the charge (+1 attack bonus) when you assult first, 2 cc attacks normally with shootas as they only have one hand to hand combat weapons, with choppas and sluggas you have +1 attack bonus for having an extra cc weapon.

Or would it be better to take a few (3) trukks?

Personaly i am not one to comment on lists. I can make competitive lists, but it takes alot of analysing to work them out. I love doing fluffy lists mainly. Just some tips on the defeating the Necrons:
Do not try and destroy the Monolith until last/near last. yes it has some blast weapons etc. But try and get close to it so it could tank schock you, but if it trys to blast you it could blast itself. With a Killa Kan block up his Monolith's door so the Warriors can't escape if he has any in there. Spread the Boyz 2" apart from eachother so they are still in Coherency and blast weapons won't be as effective. Overload the Orb wielding Lord with your Boyz or Deffkoptas so they will not get picked out by shooting and you will kill the Lord hopefuly. The rest i would go for your idea of using a Kan wall of 2 to just hide the boyz. Though put your KFF with the Boyz to give them a cover save instead of having a Kan Wall and keep them with the other Kan.

Just some ideas to help for you.

I'm really having trouble figuring out if switching to shootas is a good idea too.

Taking trukks would be a good call so you can get up fast. maybe take out the deffkopts since there is only 2? and 1 killa kan? for the trukks points...I'm not sure of the trukks points are but that might be an idea. Other then that the list looks really good.

I'll say that you seem a bit PK poor... No way to get a few more PK compatible units in this list? I know that would be a huge diversion from what you have now, but it'll make those Necrons stay down, and the tougher destroyers will crumple when you get into cc.

Also I think imo I would rather have the extra cc weapon since they are great for cc and BS 2...enough said. It also depends on your playing style though.

Pope,
I'm looking at the list, and I can count 9 PK equivalents in there.

2 Nobs w/ PK
2 Deffkoptas with Buzzsaw (PK Equiv)
5 Kans with DCCW (PK Equiv)

Am I wong? Also, where else could I plug PKs in that would work with my points? Boyz?

Buzzsaws are not worth the 25 points, as you will get s7 on the charge and s6 everywhere else, on top of that, they are riding upon a fairly fragile mount that probably won't get to attack anyway (I1, only 2 wounds to go through, the necrons would shoot them to piss, or kill them in cc before you get to attack.) The kans, if they make it into combat will do some damage to the warriors (although they have WS2, better for sittin back n shooting), but thats IF they make it. Ideally, I'd suggest some trukk nobz with a painboy (FNP is a blessing from Groknmork himselves, and then you make em cyborks) n PKs n big choppas. (Like I said, your list would change greatly) drop the koptas and a kan or two for the painboy unit. I am learning ork tactica as I go, one thing is for sure, ... I never am sorry I brought more PK's.. On another note, i'm not sure the burna on your HQ will be worth the points vs. the necrons..

I agree about the HQ havng too many upgrades. Keep it simple an 85pt big mek with KFF. Keep the cybork if you want you can still do the following: Save 30pts, plus dropping the rokkits in the boys unit to give you 50 pts. Get another Killa Kan with rokkits. Those rokkits get 2 attacks and a BS3. That just makes sense.

I'd also drop a buzzcopta to get more boys. I would even go with shoota boys to weaken the warriors before you attack in CC

Always try to max out those boys units. They with destroy any necron in CC with relative ease.

there is nothing there that Can destroy his monlith, which will be teleporting warriors all game. his lord will be teleporting all game as well, which means the destroyers that you need to prioritise.

I agree with more power claws but in most games with only 1 monlith and only 2 troop squads of the cons. I would just ignore it. Also you have 5 killa cans that can chase it.

The big reason I loaded it out with the koptas is that I wanted something that could keep the Destroyers busy since they were just chewing me up last game.
What other options do I have for killing those?

Here is a revised list, but I'm still wondering how the limited mobility will hold up against all the teleporting he can do, and the Destroyers kiting the boyz and Kans around.
I suppose the Kans could rokkit the Destroyers, but that's assuming he doesn't immediately flank me while my kans should be upfront shielding my boyz.
It seems I need some kind of counter to the Destroyers.

I like this list a lot. With that many boys you will be able to pump out 120 shots into all his warriors and destroyers and the like. You are bound to take some down before you get into assault. Also, that many rookits with weaken his lines big time hopefully. Plus the lootas! I like this list a lot. You should fair pretty well. i think you should go extra kans over lootas. But then again it may be nice to have an extra squad of deffgun potentially shooting 15 shots into a destroyer squad from long range.

Let me know how the game goes. I am curious to see for myself as I haven't faced necrons yet with my kan wall.

Bah! Never got to play last night. The Necrons and Speesh Mahreens went at it for too long.
These games last forever when you have to look up every rule.
Also, he ended up running 8 destroyers and no mono last night, so now that's something to consider.

My new theory on this topic is MOAR LOOTAS!

Take the lootas, they are good against destroyers. Split your kans into as many units as possible if taking 6 go 3 units of 2. I'd be tempted to try and fit in 3 units of 5 lootas, maybe give up 1 kan. I think your biggest threat is those destroyers and lootas will take care of them.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

At 1K he was crazy to run a monolith anyhow. I would use those points for more destroyers or some wraiths, just like it looks like he has done. Not a bad ork list though. I do like the revisions.

Finished this game on Sunday night.
Ended in a very even tie.
He would have won, but for a high risk deep strike mishap off of the Veil of Darkness that left his destroyer unit out of action for a round.
Closing the gap with footslogging shootas is easier than with slugga boys, but it's still wicked hard with the Necrons using Veil, and the Destroyers just staying at max range.
I had three buzz saw kotpas in the mix and that helped a bit, but I'm still struggling with the closing for assault.
