Subject: Two questions about ICs
|

1. Are two identically armed ICs "identical in gaming terms"?
Ex. I have a unit of three Haemonculi joined together. All three have the exact same wargear. During my opponent's shooting phase, they suffer 2 wounds with no saves allowed. Do two models take one wound, or do I lose a whole model? They are the same unit, and they are armed the same, and they have the same profile, so I think the wounds would consolidate onto one model.
2. Can a unit with an IC attached that walks on from the board edge detach?
Ex. I have a unit of Wyches with a Haemonculus attached that is arriving from reserves and walking onto the table. Can I have them detach during the movement (leaving the pain token with the Wyches)? I'm sure the answer is yes (as they only have to end their movement away) but I wanted to ask, as the IC rules are a little wonky sometimes.

1. Yes, if they also have the same profile. (i.e. they need to be 3 normal haemis, or 2 captains)
2. Read the BRB FAQ, the answer is in ther. the answer is no

Interesting. To take that entry a step further, if one were to arrive in a vehicle and disembark (Drop Pod, Stormraven, etc.) then you wouldn't be able to disembark seperately either, would you?

Again, no.
Here's the Main Rulebook FAQ about this;
Q: If an independent Character is joined to a unit that is
outflanking, when can he leave the unit? (p94)
A: If an independent character is arriving from reserve
together with a unit, whether it is outflanking or not, he
cannot leave the unit during the turn it arrives. He can, of
course, leave it as normal from the following turn.

Yeah, I read the FAQ, I know where it is, I reference it a lot when I answer questions here, I just happened to miss that one when I originally posted. Is that no a disagreement or an agreement? "No you can't" or "no you're wrong"?
The reason I ask is that it is common practice to disembark an IC separately from outflanking vehicles, and even from Drop Pods. This would make that impossible.

Sorry for terse answer. As per the FAQ, when an IC is joined to a unit and they arrive from reserve, the IC cannot leave the unit that turn.
I used to disembark an IC separately from a unit as well, but no longer do so.

No, I should apologize. You were just trying to help. I was expanding on the FAQ more than asking another question (even with the question mark) because of Drop Pods specifically. I thought in the back of my mind that the transport disembarking rulings might be viewed as a "more specific" rule that would override the reserves FAQ, but I doubt it. Considering I had never noticed that FAQ entry, I thought maybe it had been there for a while, even when people DID do that, so I was more saying "isn't this tactic illegal?"
Sorry, I had to go to the post office this morning for my passport, where they told me that there was a problem with my information. I had been talked down to once today, and felt that you were doing the same.

No problem! I try to never come across as talking down to someone, just try to help out with answers.
Sometimes I get it wrong too, but I think I get the right answer more often than not.
I've gone through the passport process too so I know what you're talking about!
Back on topic, if you had an IC in a drop pod with a 10 man squad, and they split into combat squads upon disembarking, then you would have to choose to have the IC joined to one or the other squad when they arrive, but the IC would still have to remain with the selected squad until the next turn.
As I had said, I was doing it wrong until the FAQ too!
