I am new to warhammer 40k and i am building a Blood Angel army, i recently bought a dreadnaught before i built my codex, i'm worried i've made a big mistake! I want my Dreadnaught to be heavy support. However, i have fitted and glued on it a magna grappler, does this mean my dreadnaught now has to be an elite??

Pretty much. Although if you got a Magna Grapple in the kit, it was going to be elite anyways (the Furioso kit can only make one of the three Elite Dreadnoughts, never the normal vanilla kind used in the Heavy Support section).

cheers for clearing that up! if i'd have built the dreadnought again i would have made sure it was a librarian for the special psychic abilities... i wanted 3 elites squads... san guards, furiouso librarian dreadnought and terminator squad!

frustrating!

Death Company dreadnoughts (Troops section) also have the magna grapple option. Of course they have their own baggage associated with them.

The model is what ever you want it to be. It' how you designate it that counts. Don't use the magna-grapple, say it is something else or use it to mount some cool bits onto.

With a bit of modification, those magna grapples could be a big set of speakers for some C.S. Goto Dreadnought Braying!

haha if this was facebook i would be liking the last two previous comments.

i have stuck a frag cannon and a power fist with a melta gun on the model.

i dont have my codex with me at the moment, but from what you're saying is so long as i do not use certain parts i can say it is something else according to my codex? schweet! so i can have my 3 elite groups after all.

by the way i have never played a proper game yet using all the blood angel rules, i'm playing with the kids in the academy at the mo... embarrassing!

You can always ask your opponent to count the model as something else. However if you go anywhere with What You See Is What You Get rules, you have to use it as an Elite Furioso Dreadnought (as the Heavy Support one doesnt have those options).

Not necessarily. If you have only glued the Magna Grapple on, most players will overlook it and know that it isnt part of the basic Dread's wargear. Now if you have already glued on blood fists or talons, then im sorry to say, but what you have there is a Furioso Dreadnought.
