My Codex says that in Unit Composition I can have 3 Death Company... i am not sure what this means, as in the description for other troops it says a squad can be made up of 4 space marines and 1 sergeant! it then says i can add up to 27 models, aain i'm not quite sure what this means and how many death company models make up a squad.

The Unit composition is indicating the minimum amount of Death Company Marines you must have to make it a legal squad. The "add up to 27" means you can add up to another 27 models, paying the points as indicated. This means that a unit of Death Company can range from a mere 3 models to a massive 30 model unit.

You kinda have to. You're only allowed one Death Company Squad per army (unless Astorath is in the force).

The way it works is this:

You can choose to take no Death Company Squads
You can choose to take one Death Company Squad
If you do it must consist of at least 3 Death Company Space Marines
If you like it can contain another 27 more Death Company Space Marines
Therefore your squad can consist of anything from 3 to 30 Death Company Space Marines
You cannot take more than one squad of Death Company
UNLESS you take Astorath the Grim, in which case you can have up to 6, like any other troop choice

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I don't understand what you mean by 'mix up your troops' though.

Squads are always the same type throughout. E.g. A tactical squad consists of 4 Space Marines and a sergeant, but they all come with Bolters. You can't have assault marines, tactical marines and death company marines all in one squad if that's what you're thinking.

Death Company doesnt have a sergeant. At the very minimum you can field a squad of 3 death company troops. If you continue reading under the stats/rules for the death company you will see that it says 'add up to 27 death company @ 20pts per model. remember though that unless you have Astorath you can really only field 1 squad of Death company. But just to confirm a squad is between 3-30 models of DC.

I would also recommend making your death company squad very small. You will eventually find out that sometimes they can end up being a complete waist of points because of their rage. If you take them on foot, definately load them into a drop pod or rhino. If you have them equipped with Jump packs -- always deepstrike

The sanguinor is a beast of a special character...his stat line should tell you this. He is a special character killer! He can give any one of your sgts a blessing. with 3 wounds on a 2+ sv, he also gets a 3+ invul save. All friendly units within 6" of him gain +1 to their attacks....which is nice if you have him deepstrike in on the same turn that an assault squad or sanguinary guard do. Other than that he doesnt specifically enhance your army the same way that a Dante or Tycho do.

Do note that, other than in the title, the term Death Company refers to each individual Death Company Marine, not an entirely new squad.

Not having the rulebook in front of me at the moment, is it possible to combat squad death company effectively giving you 6 squads of 5?

Death Company does not have the Combat Squad Special Rule. So no, I am afraid you cannot.

negative on that.

the only option you have to break them up a little would to include a Death Co Dread. For every 5 death company marines you have in your army, you can bring a dread.

Also remember that Rage only works if the squad has line of sight with the enemy unit. So if you effectively keep them behind a Land Raider at the End of you turns, you can navigate them to their objective a little easier (sometimes, this is contingent on the board layout).

Or even better you could hide them inside of a StormRaven

Astorath would let you take multiple Death company squads, giving you a max of 180 Death companies (although there is no way you can ever field that much, as that's a ridiculous amount of points).

hmm 180 DC at a base cost of 20 pts per model along with Astorath....3820pts....seems like a good army list to me
