I just started my Tau army and I think I'm gonna get the Assault on Black Reach box for the rulebook and templates. I was planning to sell the orcs and marines, but... hmm... maybe... hmmm... I could just keep the marines as a secondary army... you know... just for fun...

Sooooo.. in the box, there's 1 Captain, 5 Termines, 10 Tacticals and a Cybot. It seems to me that this could be a start for a nice and fun build. Do you think I could make this a 1000pt army with the following constraints:

Spend 100 bucks or less (you can choose the currency )

Fun, Fun Fun (no cheese, that's where my Tau will be going)

Any ideas?

I really like mobility, so what about some bikes and a speeder? Assault squads? One or two Rhines? A Land Raider? What's the most fun you can have with marines?

If you like it mobile go with at least One rhino for your tacticals. Perhaps some attackbikes for fast tank hunting. And if you like it close and personal go with the jump marines. If you do, dont forget jumppack for the captain

Ok, so a Rhino it is. How many points are we roughly looking at for the following army?

- Some kind of HQ either with either jump packs or Terminator armor

- 5 Termines

- A Tactical squad with a rhino

- An assault squad

- 3 bikes (tank hunter config)

Edit: - And a dreadnaught (if it fits in there)

Is that in 1000pt range? or more like 500? (Sorry, me no have Codex: SM, yet)

And would that be a more-or-less viable army to play or be blown away in turn 1?

Side note: As my Tau are already pretty much focussed on moving and shooting (like all Tau, I guess), how about focussing the marines on CC then?

Any recommendations for a CC-focused Marine army in the 1000pt range? Or should I go with Blood Angels, then?

Along with with what Kosta said i would purchase the Blood Angels Codex because that offers alot of good solid units for marines. But dont take mephiston because he is the mster of Cheese! The Blood Angels are pretty good at close combat with a priest. Good luck to you!

Well, first of all trade out the orks from your AoBR set for more marines. That will double your number of them.

I went with the following:

Captain w/Relic Blade, Bolter and Digital weapons

5 TH/SS terminators in a redeemer (I had some TH/SS bits laying around)

2x10 Tactical marines with Missile/Flamer in Rhinos

2xVindicators

1xLand Raider (just for fun, though I will most likely switch this out for another tactical squad in a rhino.)

this is 1500pts

And I painted them up as Imperial fist.

Just my two cents and for the most part was relatively cheap (except for the land raiders...)
