So I have the following:

Tomb King with sword and shield
Tomb King with great weapon
Liche Priest
Liche Priest
Liche Priest mounted
Liche Priest mounted
5 Chariots
64 Skeletons
16 Horseman

and I'm about to get:

3 Chariots
14 Horseman
25 Archers
25 Spearmen

What else should I be looking to get or should I hold off until the codex is out?

Hold off.

I'm thinking the best bet is to hold off until you see what lands with the next army book. You have enough to fill out a big "core" of the army, so when the book drops, you should be able to just have fun figuring out what toys you want to add/use.

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

Paint.

But beyond that, if you're REALLY itching to get a new model or two, I would say pick up a scorpion or a screaming skull catapult. By the time you figure out how to ASSEMBLE the damn things, the book will be out.

(no seriously, with that strong of a core ready, I'd hold off to see if they're going to release plastic Ushbati or Tomb Guard)

How big should my units be? I was thinking 4x5 for spearmen, 2x6 for Archers, 1x5 for horsemen, and 1x3 for chariots.

I'm going to be straight with you. That is way too many liche priests. Waaaaaaay too many.

I'm thinking of going TK as well. Should I buy my core now(not really concerned with the models appearance)? I'll bet that they will re-release the skeletons in the current GW ideology of less for more (10 skeles when the unit minimum to be effective is 30ish? come on GW). Also 3 chariots will for sure become one chariot for a little less than the current price.

I think the only two Tomb King certainties are chariot core and excellent archers.

I'm not one to bitch and moan about the current state of the undead armies, but it would be a real shame if skeleton warriors weren't given a bit of a bump in the next army book.

Agreed. The warrior archers are perfectly fine - deadly, even (especially if they're given Khalida's poison attacks). The melee version is ... well, really they're useful to prevent people from charging your archers. That's kind of sad, when you think about it.

I know the liche priests used to come in a pack - one mounted, one not - which is probably why the OP has so many listed. Four is a bit much, but I have to admit, I do like seeding units with a bare bones (no pun intended) priest just to eke out that extra incantation of urging or smiting.

In ur gaem, killin ur doodz.

No tactics actually exist in this thread yet. Guess I'll burst that bubble.

The Tomb Kings, that are an army that last edition had to rely on speed and maneuvering with shock tactics to win the battle.

Armies got ostensibly faster, while Tomb Kings got slower. So that advantage has been marginalized.

Steadfast nullifies shock tactics pretty handily.

soo.. what are we left with? Reliable, never break, slightly overpriced core. Our only decent RnF in Special, and devastating rares.

Furthermore: How you build your army is not a tactic, it's part of your strategy. How you intend to try to beat your opponent.

Tactics are the actual manuevering, sacrifices, charges, countercharges, charch sinks, (etc. etc.) that occur on the table top once the dice start tumbling.

Strategicly, Those additional things you intend to buy, are fine. They probably won't be changing with the new book. So if you still want the archers/spearmen... Go nuts. Chariots too. Look to Screaming Skull Catapults for metals as those are rumored not to change. The Casket of Souls too (Actually, current in game rules for the casket are..... lacking, but if you have the itch to buy something it probably won't be getting a new model, and the rumored new rules are good.

Bone Giants could be getting plastic, but they wouldn't be much less expensive than the metals now... so you could look into those too.

Here's the problem. A unit of Tomb Guard with a King, and the Icon of the Sacred eye, are actually a pretty nice unit... Perhaps you could make some HW/SH warriors and call them "Tomb Guard" for now.. because the TG are getting plastics... NO point in spending $125 on a unit you'll be able to buy for 65-70 in a couple months.

Couple that with the fact that Ushabti are 22.50 per right now AND your usual unit of ogres clock in at about 8 models.. That means you're paying 200 dollars for 400 points.. or 2 dollars per point... no.. thanks...

As for tactics: Wrap your brainpan around this.

What if you took 2 big units of archers... say at 24 strong. and 2 Screaming Skull Catapults. Then 3 or 4 units of light cav to use as sacrificial buffers. 1 big unit (25) tomb guard, 2 units of 25-30 skeleton warriors, 2 units of chariots.

Then let's say that you used your Light cav as a sort of sacrifical speed bump that you used to absorb charges and spread the chargers out.. Then when your opponent charged, whipped the unit, and either overran, or re-formed.. he was in a no win situation where you could countercharge his flanks... (because the light cav were spread just right in front of your battle-line) More importantly, when you're raining skulls on your opponent, he's going to be FAR less likely to flee, because he'd rather be in combat than getting skulls dropped on his head.
