Well first off welcome to the greater Good!
And second I think you are off to a decent start, but so as not to " sugar coat " my advice ( although I am never mean to anyone who actually tries to paint their minis)
1: you need to thin down your paints a bit either with clean water or a acrylic paint thinner, it looks very thick in your pics and obscures alot of the detail.
2: The figures look very flat, a easy way to make dark green/olive drab look alot better is with a dry brush of a lighter color or even bleach bone, just make sure to use the absolute minimum paint on the brush ( you can always add more , but taking it off is a little problematic )
3: just keep on painting every figure will get a little better and before you know it, you will be giving advice on painting
4: As per tournament paint standards the last time I was at one they had a 3 color minimum on scheme, and I think yours make that requirement, tournaments don't seem to care how well a mini is painted just that it is painted.
ok well I hope this helps, and feel free to check my galleries for some of my painted tau stuff, I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Forgive me if I don't see the three colors. Could you point them out to me? So far I can only see red and black.

Just wanted to say that those Tau are exactly the same color scheme as the ones I had when I started (long gone now) back in 2004 when they came out.
Just keep painting and you will continue to improve.

Basically hat Soo Va Cha said.
or
I really like how easily a wash can improve the look of a fig. I have found that some of the Army Painter washes work wonders, even on light colors for a very easy way to pick out details without turning the models too dark. That would be my main suggestion to make them look a bit better without putting in much additional effort.

Glory is fleeting, but obscurity lasts forever.
Considering also your duty as a warrior you should not waver. Because there is nothing more auspicious for a warrior than a righteous war.

They look good and i think the advise you recieved thus far is all on point. One other thought as to tournament standards is that in addition to the 3 colors sometimes a tournament will have rules governing basing as well, in order to get full points,so you might want to ask you TO about that as well just to make sure that you are getting all the points you can. I think the last time i checked the rule was that the base have texture and paint on it to get full points... but again YMMV.
