I will be using my SW against a friend at my local GW soon. Haven't played a game in a few months, and I also have not played my SW against his Nids yet. It gets pretty competitive, considering that we have beaten each other about same, using different armies (me having the more recent wins). We will probably play a 1250 or 1500 pt game. Here is what my army consists of:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/351781.page

He will probably have a Hive Tyrant w/ Guard, Tervigon or two, lots of Termagants, Genestealers, Zoanthropes, Biovores, and a Trygon/Mawloc. I would not know if it's possible to field all of these units given the points we have, but his army usually consists of these model (give or take a couple may not be used).

I am familiar with most of the Nids' psychic powers, as well as the special rules. Any pointers on how I should deploy and what my game plan should be? Thanks!

Wait you're playing space wolves and asking for a strategy?
Longfang missile spam like everyone else and their dogs.
Jaws of the world wolf. aim at MC. hear the lamentation of their women.

what this man said.

Templates. Lots of templates. Flamers, missiles, even heavy bolters. I use to play Nids and I will admit that when players would take out my gaunts and stealers, I didn't care too much. If you don't want to mess with killing his mass of infantry, take out the warriors, zoans, MC's and you will have the game in the bag. Once you destroy the synapse creatures, the gaunts and the other fodder are useless.

Thanks. I am actually the only SW player in the store. I don't want to be the cheesy spam guy in a casual game (not that their is anything wrong with it, but just not my style). I would like to win in a respectable way with no complaints/excuses . Just want to be prepared because I have not played in a few months, and before that I have only been in the hobby for about 8-9 months.

May be a stupid question, but would you say SW lists have an advantage over Nids list? Player's skills aside.

You could just go hulk on the Nids and craft a small number of awesome CC units to obliterate his nids. 1. You will be vastly outnumbered, and this will look awesome. 2. You will take out tens of his nids when he only knocks out one of your marines, and this will frustrate him. 3. He will have to fight on your terms since you will have less units (i.e. nothing to shoot at since they will always be in combat and he won't be able to divide and conquer).

However, this can backfire. If the dice gods don't bless you during this particular battle, then things can start to fall apart quickly. This idea is just more for fun than to be competitive.

On moon miranda.

In all honesty? Yes, though Tyranids are not alone in this.

Jaws will kill Carnifex's and Tervigons 2/3rds of the time and all you need to do is pass an Ld10 psychic test. Their psychic defense is useless if you are either 24" away from a synapse creature or in a transport (stick rune priests in rhino, shoot jaws out at MC's, rinse/repeat). TWC's will make a mockery of MC's in close combat and outfight Warriors generally, and with Counterattack on everything it makes CC for a very CC oriented army a rather sticky situation.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Show up.
In all seriousness, you really almost auto-win unless you build a terrible list or the dice gods frown upon you. Or, of course, your opponent is really good with 'nids.

I would advise you to put away the Space Wolf Codex. No matter what you do with it, people will cry cheese at it.

I read a friend's SW codex the other day. Sadly, it really is full of cheese. I use to play SW and I use to like them, but now they seem OP. I haven't, however, played against them in the new codex, so I can't really say for sure. I'm sure that people will forget about the SW soon since the Grey Knights are coming out. The GK use to make me rage and I'm sure they will be just as cheesy this time around.
