I bought two and frick'n LOVE them. Not so much the look, but actually the game play. I can't wait for Vanilla Marines to pick these up for their codex. Anyone else as giddy as I am?

lol i think it looks cool but what they should of done was add the clamps to the bottom so it can hold the dreadnought under it like its suposed to. But the problem is if you dont get first turn and its on the field its dead.

I don't think ALL SM will get it until next edition.

Until then, it will JUST be BA and GK getting to play with it (and whatever a short-bus-riding GW redshirt tells you is ok.).

The concept is the same: the biggest vehicle on the field usually draws more fire. I was in a tournament this weekend and my first shots went to my opponents' Land Raiders. Why? Because they are big and carry nasty things. So do Stormravens. They carry lots of troops, a dreadnought, and they can fire a lot of weapons. Of course they're gonna be bullet magnets.

In my opinion, if they work well for you, then play them! Things are going to be shot up in this game, its kinda based around that concept. If you don't like it, pick a new unit... or maybe a new game, like checkers.

I think you'll find if you don't get first turn something you have deployed will be dead before your turn. It's the problem of UGOIGO.

Keep the Stravens in reserve.

I love how you all expect them to be on the table in first round. One word...

Reserves.

With a guaranteed 20" assault with troops and a possible 30" with a Death Co. Dreadnought, they can be nasty enough coming out of reserves.

Storm Raven is 12 all around with Ceramic Plates. Every time I have fielded mine it has lasted till around turn 3 at the earliest. Sometimes lasts all the way till the end, and even when I don't get first turn it makes it far enough to drop off it's payload and ruin my opponents day.

This has been my experiences as well.

These things have given my Alpha-Strike playing style what I've always needed - mobility on the field. Another advantage that I love, is that since they aren't designated transports, I can change around the troop/dread combos depending on my enemy.

I personally think the SR is great for what it does! Nice to see something that can tote a dread around in normal games

I still dislike the Chibihawk's hump, although a good number of modellers here have shown that there are alternatives to that.

Alternatives? I'd love a cool looking alternative, that intake doesn't make any sense at all.

There was a guy on this site who did a Lamanter's Stormraven, which had a flat turret and lowered intake hump. Another one I've seen got rid of the top part of the Chibihawk altogether and instead mounted the guns on the nose of the Stormraven. Both looked MUCH better than the current model, and could be done with little to no hassel.

What is with your avatar and sig? The sig is especially brutal!

On topic:

I haven't seen one perform in person, but my problem would be that someone shoots a random lascannon and blows up all of those bloodstrike missiles and other weapon goodness.

To me, they just seem like a premium target so I don't know if I would personally run one. How can you protect them?

Thanks

If protection is needed, you can always move 18"-24" and get the 4+ cover save. In my experiences so far, the save is really only needed later in the game, when there is maybe only a few lascannons left. You have to remember the fire power on this, plus the amazing assault range, can pretty much take care of what it needs to and do it very quickly.

Honestly I think I've only had one or two of them die to twin-linked lascannon fire, and it was in late rounds. You have to remember the math on armor 12 and it's not the easiest thing to blow up with a single shot, strength 9 weapon. To me... a Vindicator, Broadsides, and Medusas are really the only threats that could ruin my day.

Other then that I'll take my chances, because the odds are more likely in my favor.

I think the bane of my SR has been a Leman-Russ with the twin linked autocannon, 4 twin linked autocannon shots... one always seems to hit and do some damage, even with the cover saves.

Looking forward to the psychic ability for GKs to shrug off stuns/shakens though.

I hope they dont get it at all. The storm raven is a logical fit for BA and GK fluff (BA having a thirst for assault and GK granted access to the best equip). To include it in the vanilla codex wouldnt make much sense.

The BA's needed to lighten that gak up... If it were 14/14/14 it'd be too heavy to zip around in the air all vampire like.

All fluff aside...tell me what military organization wouldn't want a fast moving, low to the ground troop drop ship with heavy support weapon options? Its not about fluff in this case, the ultramarines would probably just find that gak useful and requisition some from the manufactorium.

if you move flat out you get a 4+ cover save, but if you move flat out and miss your sv everything gets pasted inside with the raven.

Nope. If you flat out into terrain and immobilize yourself, everything gets pasted. The FAQ only applies during your own turn.
