After going through a site of various leafets dropped on troops during WW2, Thought to myself: how would IG regiments react to a propaganda war not unlike what got this "Inspiration" from?

rememberancers and iterators would wipe the propaganda from the troops memories very quickly. The imperium wouldnt accept any such acts.....

Well, I guess propaganda wars is widely practiced among Chaos factions against IG regiments. I guess this is how guards can become traitors.

But of course, the IoM has very efficient political officers: the commissars. They would certainly pay a lot of attention to the effects of enemy propaganda on their troops.

"How many more worlds do we sacrifice? How many more millions or billions do we betray before we turn and fight?" - attributed to Captain Leoten Semper of Battlefleet Gothic - Gothic War, the evacuation of Belatis.

If commanding a Titan is a measure of true power, then commanding a warship is like having one foot on the Golden Throne - Navy saying.

But what if there was a leaflet telling Guardsmen that Commissars were their enemy, encouraging them to shoot em? I can see that could potentially tear a regiment apart.

the way the IoM trains it's soldiers is quite effective.

all dissenters are removed or the whole regiment turns.

Commissars are quite effective.

most regiments that turn traitor either had their commissars killed in battle(and then they turn), the commissars themselves were corrupted, or the regiment doesn't have commissars.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

I could see propaganda working in both ways, Def when you get far away from the main imperial military worlds, it prob would have a very strong effect on soldiers. I wouldn't be surprised to see it work.

Commissars are usually paranoid to the extent that they always watch their backs...
Some of the 'nicer' ones are looked after by their regiment but the would likely not get the same treatment... of course this means death to the trooper/s that didn't help so many wouldn't take the chance that he didn't survive.

I can just imagine this happening in a trench war.

"Lord General, the enemy has dropped propaganda on the 231st and they have defected!"

"Redirect artillery company 42 on their position"

There you go, problem solved.

Actually Chaos leaflets are not so much effective 'gainst properly trained IG - or even PDF. Every sane guardsman knows that if you touch something tainted by Chaos you'll immediately sprout tentacles and wil crave for human blood so you'll be put out of misery not by Comissair but your own mates. Most disturbing thing that part 'bout tentacles and bloodlust is not an Imperial propaganda - don't forget - "ignorance is a virtue" is written in blood of curious victims of Ruinous Powers.

Xenos on other hand...well, Tau definitely use something like this not without success.

I'm thinking more of the hidden chaos, such as a planet which goes to chaos, or independence but hides the twisted arms, etc. Badab war seems like a perfect situation where propaganda would work out well

IG propaganda is easy:

The Emperor doesn't have a GKs unshakable faith in the Emperor which is....basically himself?
