New Mexico. Look, a UFO!

Hey everybody! I've lurked on DD for a while, finally decided it was time to make a profile and be sociable.
I used to play 40K all the time when i was younger, but i just sort of slowed down as time went by and finally stopped altogether. Well, no longer! I'm jumping back in, and I need some advice. My last army was Tau, back when they were first released, and I still have most of them; they're quite dusty and the paint job i did embarasses me now, but it's still around 1000 points of perfectly good models. Those, and about 300 points worth of 'nids that i bought (more for the fun of painting them up and having them than for actually using) are all that I own currently. My question to you all is, do you think I should sell them off and start all over, or repaint them and use what i have as a foundation?

I never actually played as 'nids before so I dunno if I would enjoy it; I know they would be almost the polar opposite of my Tau (i.e. CC beasts, meh at range), but the idea seems fun enough. I loved playing Tau, and i had fun with SM too (first army was Ultramarines). And the Grey Knights look pretty bad-ass too! Money isn't too big of an issue either, I could probably put down $100-$200 a month towards whatever i decide on. Of course, I also need new paints/brushes, GS, cutting tools, etc...

tl;dr, i have old models, how hard would it be to strip all the paint off and re-do them, and do you think it would be worth the time, or should i just try to get a few bucks for them and start from scratch?

In that foulest of ages, this ship had hung in the skies above Holy Terra as the world's atmosphere burned. Its name was Ashallius S'Veyval, in a dead language, from a dead world. In Imperial Gothic, it translated loosely as Echo Of Damnation.

Thank Heaven! The crisis --The danger, is past, and the lingering illness is over at last --, and the fever called "Living" is conquered at last.

Painted models frankly sell for very little, unless they're highly in demand like Tyrant Guard or Chimeras or what have you.

Stripping paint is easy - buy some Simple Green from your grocery or department store, leave models in there for a couple days, then scrub paint off with a toothbrush. Not quite good as new, but it goes a long way.

If I were you, I'd decide on a paint scheme, get the latest Tau codex, and get some new paint. Maybe get a kit of models just to keep the inspiration going before stripping the paint off 1000 points of old models.

Alrighty, thanks for the tips! I had no idea Simple Green would remove paint, i was gonna go with brake cleaner or something. I also have some old Necron Warriors still on the sprues with their lil' scarabs, i might see if anyone here wants 'em. I did some more thinking about it, I'm still not sure if i want to go back to Tau or try something new... what's the learning curve on Tyranids anyway?
