Anyone either have a pic (or is able to quickly snap one) comparing the size of a the current Lictor (including Deathleaper if you've got 'em) side-by-side with Tyranid Warriors?

I'm curious if the Lictor is actually a bit taller than the Tyranid Warrior body and if it would work to take the Lictor body, modify the army sockets and use Tyranid warrior arms to make a Tyranid Prime.

Obviously if anyone has a conversion like this I would love to see it as well!

Thanks.

I don't have the current one, but the previous ones are both appreciably larger than Warriors, without being ridiculously larger.

So I misread your post, I thought you wanted a Ravener vs. a Warrior. I don't have any Lictors as mine are all made from Warrior bits. I am pretty sure they are the same size approximately. But to make my primes i used Raveners. The body is bulkier and the head has the mandibles so they work well for Primes. That plus some extra armor bits and it works well. If you want I can post a pic of the prime both with a normal warrior and separately.

Don't have all models here at home, so the best I could get is a lictor next to an old Tyranid Warrior (who is about the same size as the current Warrior). My impression is that the lictor is too skinny and small. Better take the 2nd edition Hive Tyrant as a base (here with Chapterhouse bitz):

The model on the left is my WIP Tyrant Guard, but it's made from a Lictor. The models are the same height, but the Lictor stands up a bit straighter.

Me and Kroothawk apparently had the same idea. Here's a pic of the 2nd edition Tyrant next to a current Warrior.

Cheers, Yakface.

Edit: First pic isn't appearing for some reason :\.

If you remember the previous tyranid hive tyrant, that looked like a giant warrior, I would reccomend using that as a tyranid prime. For one, im willing to bet the model would be fairly easy to get and two, there is no existing model for the tyranid prime, and since its stats are similar to those of a warrior, i see it as a beefy warrior, which the previoud hive tyrant does look like. its what im using, I would like to get you a picture but my camera is currently out of commission. I've done the work to provide you with a link though

on the second one, the new tyranid arms offer a reference scale for size, so you should be able to work it out well enough.

Thanks for all the help guys!

I agree the Lictor body isn't going to work as I hoped...while it is certainly a tad bit taller, it is also quite a bit less 'beefy' which doesn't fit the Tyranid Prime fluff at all.

I think the original Tyrant works size-wise, but the body design just doesn't do it for me. I want the Tyranid Prime to look like a bigger Warrior, kind of like a Nob looks to an Ork boy and the 'vents' off the back of the original Tyrant model just don't look right for a Warrior.

poda: Thanks for the suggestion of the 2nd-gen Tyrant...it is definitely intirguing. While it still seems to have the back vents (which warriors don't have), they are much smaller, and so seems like it might work. I would love to see some better side by side pics of the 2nd-gen Tyrant with the current Warriors (I'll have to look around google a bit), so if anyone's got something better than what poda posted, I'd love to see it.

Ultimately I think my biggest concern about the 2nd-gen Tyrant is the 'smiley' face. It just doesn't match what current Tyranids tend to look like, but it still may end up being the best (easiest) alternative for what I want.

If you're worried about the back vents, the only ones attached to the model are the two top ones; the others are seperate pieces. So you can just not glue the others and shave/cut off the ones on the top if you don't like the vents. Also, I wouldn't say the Tyrant has a smily face. I'm looking at the head right now, and I think it's the angle that most pics are taken at. When you actually have it in your hands and look at it from different angles, the illusion of it having a smile quickly fades.

You're talking about the 2nd gen Tyrant model, correct?

Looking at it a bit more, I actually don't see an issue with the back vents on the 2nd gen Tyrant...in all, his body type looks surprisingly like a big Tyranid Warrior:

I think the big problem I have besides the 'smiley' look is that the head just looks too large compared to the current generation design aesthetic. I think if you replace the arms and weapons with current versions (as poda did in his pics) it looks great, but I think something different has to be done with the head.

The problem is, I'm guessing the standard Warrior head would be too small and underwhelming and the current Tyrant head doesn't have the right 'warrior' look to it. I'm also guessing the Trygon head is too big?

Why does the first 2nd ed tyrant image look different between having vents and bulkier body compared to the one Yakface/Poda posted

In that case I'm wondering how "difficult" it would be to use a warrior head as the base for green-stuffing and buling it out to be larger. I agre with the fact that the 2nd Ed tyrant head is ridiculous especially with the mass of armor plate. What about a red terror head instead? I'm looking at the carnifex adjacent to my Tyranid prime and im thinking with a few modificatons it'd work too

I just did a check on my bits, and i thought i had a whole head, but it looks like I'm missing the bottom jaw. the 2nd Ed. ttrant would work best with the 2nd edition metal talons too. Wish I had more of those kicking around. Anyway, I cand send the the top part of the terror head if you want it.

alternatively, it could be worth tapping into older lictor models to use those as lictors so that the current lictor can be the tyranid prime?

I think people are confusing the editions...

As said, I can recommend Chapterhouse Alien heads for conversions http://chapterhousestudios.com/webshop/component/virtuemart/?page=shop.browse&category_id=34 . Also possible to find Konami Alien Queens in the right scale to loot the Queen's head.

Sorry about that. I was using the terms '1st generation' and '2nd generation' because I know it can confuse some people since they don't know which editions of the game had a Hive Tyrant release. But I think people took my use of 'generation' and mixed it up with 'edition' and got confused.
