I'm playing a game next week with my Tau. Its 2000pts a side-two Tau players against a Guard player-, and I'm assuming the guard player'll be going for a fair number of tanks-probably a few banewolves +russes...he's has fifty of them... The other Tau player is new to the game and will probably be using 2x Hammerheads with Railguns, 2x 12 Firewarriors, 3x Stealthsuits+ a Shas'o of mine and probably my spair SkyRay. Anyhow, this is the list that I've come up with based on what I actually have in the army box right now. I've got another few units there and could proxy a bit needed, but crtic is welcome. Heh, the tactic of sticking 30 fire warriors with Pulse Carbines into Devilfish alongside a load of Vespide is always an option...I just wish I hadn't sold off all my Stealthsuits though.^^'

Shas'0
Airbursting Fragmentation Projector, Missile Pod, Multi-Tracker, Hard-Wired Drone Controller, 2x Gun Drones

Crisis Battlesuit-Deep Striking and going for the tanks probably
Team Leader, Fusion Blaster, Flamer, Multi-Tracker, Hard-Wired Drone Controller 2x Gun Drones

Crisis Battlesuit
As above

Fire Warrior Team
9x Shas'la with Pulse Rifles
1x Shas'ui with Pulse Rifle

Fire Warrior Team
As above

Fire Warrior Team
As above

Broadside Battlesuit
Shas'vre, Targetting Array, Hard-wired Drone Controller, 2x Shild Drones

Broadside Battlesuit
As above

Hammerhead Gunship
Railgun, Smart Missile System, Disruption Pod

Total Points: 999

...My guard army's taking forever to build so I'll probably be playing with this for a while I guess, though I did finish building my Hydra and second Macharius Russ last night.^^'

...

I will enjoy list tailoring with you greatly.

So this guy will probably bring many tanks to the table? I would bring way more railguns to the table.

I'd try and fit in the following:

Broadside Team (2)
A.S.S.
Team Leader w/ TL + Shield Drone
- 185 (I believe)

Broadside Team (2)
A.S.S.
Team Leader w/ TL + Shield Drone
- 185 (I believe)

Broadside Team (2)
A.S.S.
Team Leader w/ TL + Shield Drone
- 185 (I believe)

That will give his tanks something to chew.

I would go with minimum troops, because your ally will also have some of his own to bring to the table, so I would just use 2 units of fire warriors.

I would get rid of the suicide feature on your crisis suits, because you have railguns to do the job now. I would give them TL Missile Pods so they could pop tanks at range, and then either give them a TA or a Flamer to fill the 3rd hardpoint.

On your commander, I would suggest not taking the AFP and Missile Pod together. They don't do the same the, the AFP is for light infantry, and the Misslie Pod is for medium infantry and light vehicles. I would suggest giving your commander a TL Missile Pod and Flamer as well.

I wouldn't suggest taking gundrones on you suits. (Especially since they are all 1 man teams). It would be better to ditch them all for another crisis suit.

It may be better to give your fire warrior teams a DC with 2 gun drones if you want the ability to pin, and also gun drones cost as much as a fire warriors, and have slightly better odds of hitting.

So all the changes together would go something like this:

Commander
(TL MP/Flamer)
-72 Pts.

Crisis Battlesuit
(TL MP/Flamer)
-47 Pts.

Crisis Battlesuit
(TL MP/Flamer)
-47 Pts.

Crisis Battlesuit
(TL MP/Flamer)
-47 Pts.

Fire Warrior Team (9)
-90 Pts.

Fire Warrior Team (9)
-90 Pts.

Broadside Team (2)
A.S.S.
Team Leader w/ TL + 2 Shield Drones
- 200

Broadside Team (2)
A.S.S.
Team Leader w/ TL + 2 Shield Drones
- 200

Broadside Team (2)
A.S.S.
Team Leader w/ TL + 2 Shield Drones
- 200

993 Pts.

If your ally could field the same list it would be awesome. Or, it would also be good if you ally could field a couple units of pathfinders and plenty of dethrain suits (TL MP + Flamer).

Wohoo, you have 6 TL Railguns, and 4 TL Missile Pods to have a party!

Btw, Stealth suits aren't the best, and neither are vespids... so even if you had them I wouldn't have suggested you put them in your list.

As I said this army list is really the bones of what I actually have, so it might be hard for me to take on what you've suggested. I've got three Broadsides, and about four battlesuits (one of which the other Tau player needs to proxy as his Shas'o and another as my own...the one I was using....died...), so I could field 4 Broadsides and field a Hammerhead instead then I guess. Yeah I get the point with the gundrones, I've just never used Battlesuits as squads of one before and had some points to fling. The other Tau player is fielding an army that he bought off of the Guard player (of twelves years ¬¬) and has just started the game, plus he's a stubourn git, so he'll be fielding something unfit for the situation no doubt, but I'll have to make do. Pathfinders I do have, two squads worth with Railrifles, so I may be able to bung some of those over to my ally, and possibly the skyray to take advantage of them, but who knows how that'll turn out?

Oh, and on the note of Vespids and Stealthsuits, before I got rid of most of my Tau I played them as an ambush style force, ie popping those guys up all over the place whilst pounding away with hammerheads...or operation mindfuck-, and they worked rather well, but hell, I can't field jack more than the basics now. =P

That would work just as well if that's all ya have.

When you said you could proxy... I was assuming you could proxy a load of models.
