Slaanesh Veteran Marine with Tentacles
|
Hey all, I recently began my first major conversion project (I'm actually using greenstuff for the first time, it's exhilarating), and I'm creating some very neat-looking Chaos Chosen with powerswords. I'm thinking of running a squad of anywhere from 6-10, with the following special weapons:
4x powerswords
1x flamer
1x Icon of Slaanesh
I'm hoping to use them as sort of a rough equivalent to Chaos genestealers, in that they'll outflank and hopefully dive into combat as soon as possible. I'm thinking that they'll be fairly good against Marine equivalents in that they'll be at a step higher initiative than their opponents. The flamer is there as insurance against a horde army. I know that they wont be nearly as effective against a massive mob of boyz or a swarm of gaunts, but the flamer might be the grain of rice that tips the scale.
Anyway, I know this isn't the most traditional Chosen selection, but is it possible in your opinion to make this effective? I'm going to use them anyway on account of how happy I am with my conversion work, but it'd be nice to see what Dakka thinks on this.

I believe the power weapons and flamers share the same "up to four models" limit.
Maybe compress your power-attacks into two LC/LC guys and get two legal flamers?

Chosen squads can get 5, the Aspiring Champion gets to choose stuff as well as the other four.

I like it, I was actually thinking of doing that myself now that the new grey knights are out. I have a bunch of marines that are slowly being possessed in my warband, and I thought it would be fun if the chosen carried around nemesis weapons from slain grey knights.
As far as tactics and such go, out flanking those guys and use lash of submission to make sure they don't get shot up the turn they come in sounds awesome! Just keep a lash sorceror or prince in range of either flank so you can help out the chosen wherever they come in from.

No need to be sorry, lots of things to remember and forget in this game!
I'm wondering though if the OP might consider taking 2 meltaguns and 3 power weapons with the Icon of Slaanesh, just in case the guys they want to chop up are in a transport and can't be lashed until they are melted out of it?

Slaanesh Chosen Marine Riding a Fiend
Inside a pretty, pretty pain cave... won't you come inside?

Why would you not just run Chaos Terminators with this build?
Chosen + PW - 33 pts
Terminator + PW - 30 pts
-Icon of Slaanesh Cheaper
-You can give one a Heavy Flamer instead of a flamer
-You can give them combi-meltas if you want dual threat
-2+/5++ save vs. 3+ save
-You lose outflank, but gain Deepstrike
-Can have more than 5 if so desired
-No Aspiring Champ required (but you can make all of them Champs if you want +1 attack)
Just curious.

Because deepstriking terminators act nothing like genestealers, can't assault the turn they come in, and because he might not have any?
I have a bunch of terminators that do exactly what you describe, but eventually I will be doing something similar with chosen, mainly because I never see them on the table and would enjoy a greater variety of units.

Not to mention that Chaos Terminators, like all Terminators, cannot inflict a Sweeping Advance. It can make a big difference in terms of winning combat. If they're a close-combat infiltrator unit, then take 10. You'll need the extra attacks.

Aspiring Champions aren't required for Chosen, either, because their leadership is 10. Unless you're saying that the +1 attack would be nice, and I'm inclined to agree with you.
I've got ten Chaos terminators, and believe me, I enjoy them greatly. However, I kit them out much differently than my chosen, and they mostly serve to protect my terminator sorcerer and provide much needed general fire support/close combat support.
Plus, and this is the most important thing, it fits my fluff. You'll find I'm not a powergamer, I just prefer to make units that I greatly enjoy the concept of and then see if I can actually smash face with them. You wont see me winning many tournaments, but you will see me enjoying the hell out of myself, win or lose.
As for choosing a melta gun instead of a flamer, believe me, the choice was hard. Plasma was right out because I wanted to retain my assault capability, and of course heavy weapons wouldn't apply. That left me with melta or flamer, or essentially some more anti tank or some more anti-horde. I ended up going with the flamer both for the added horde insurance (which I see my guys as being less than optimal against) and the fact that I already have a decent amount of anti-tank in my list. I'd like the role for these guys to be purely anti-infantry, anyway, and the flamer will help that, I think.
