When Gun Drones on vehicles are killed do they count as a squad point as it says they form an Independent Unit

They count as a Kill Point, same as any other unit.

Runnin up on ya.

The lesson here is to always upgrade to the SMS.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

That is such a stupid rule, they should not count as a squad point when killed!

KILL POINT.

Please use the right terminology, it helps a lot when discussing rules!

Why shouldnt they? They are a separate unit that can, if you wish, move and shoot entirely independently of the vehicle. Does it suck a little in KP missions? Well, yes. But a lot of things suck in KP missions - Tervigons, for one

yeah but come on a devilfish blows up and that's a squad point, then the 2 gun drones get shot at so that's another, you have to pay 20 points to go SM so the enemy doesn't get 2 squad points, its a bad idea from the GW team.

New rules, old codex. I'm sure when the Tau get an update there will be some concession made regarding gun drones and vehicles. But in the mean time it's just something that becomes a concern 1 out of 3 games. And really 20 pts to deny your opponent a KP isn't so bad.

I had always felt the same, then ran into Tim from tauofwar.blogspot.com at a GT in January. He's a very solid player, and swears by using the regular Devilfish. He argues that the gun drones are very useful for movement interdiction and other tactical tricks, and he'd rather keep them and save the 20pts, and just be careful in KP missions.
