Hi All,
I was wonder how everyone plays assaulting with a Tactical squad.
It seems they may fire one shot before assault an enemy unit.
Opinions, support, whatever!
Thanks,

If you fire with bolters you must/can (not sure about this) rapid fire if you are within 12" you can't assault afterwards.
You can instead fire with pistols and charge.
This should go into YMDC really...

Ask a Mod...
Click the little yellow triangle at the top right of the post.
Then say it should be moved to YMDC.
Then a Mod will come have a looksie and magic shall happen and the world shall rejoice 'cos the Mods are totally magic.

If you fire your bolters, you're not charging. This is because you have fired a Rapid Fire weapon (you have NOT "rapid fired" it. Same as you dont Assault a heavy flamer or Heavy a lascannon) and the rules for rapid fire weaponry prohibit (non-relentless) units from assaulting.
You can fire your bolt pistol THEN charge, because your pistol is an assault weapon.
This is why marines now get a bolt pistol.

Tactical Squads are pretty gak in assault. Their only CC punch (pun kind of intended) comes from the Sergeant wielding a power fist, and even then you only get 3A on the charge.
At over 200pts for a proper Tactical loadout I'd highly suggest you invest in some Assault Terminators instead, and leave the Tacticals for claiming objs/shooting stuff.

Thanks L. Wrex, but, given the option of getting assaulted or assaulting, it is nice to know I can get the 1 shot off before diving in!!!
It happens some times late in objective based games that one holds an objective and then you roll and there is still another turn to resolve.
Happen where I took what would be a game winning objective on turn 5 and the Orks assaulted me turn 6, and I got whipped.

Yup. It's often better to charge than be charged- especially against Orks, where you not only get the +1 attack, and they lose the +1 attach, but they also lose their S4 for Furious Assault.
