I've been a reader for a while, but this is my first post - Hurray! I've got a large and versatile Ork Army and am trying to put together an effective, balanced All-Comers list at 1500 pts. I've come up with the following list for your critiquing pleasure! Thanks in advance for constructive criticism.

Big Mek (85)
Kustom Force Field

-------------------------------------------
Lootas x11 (165)

-------------------------------------------
Boyz x20 (180)
Rokkit Launchas x2
Nob
Power Klaw
Bosspole

Boyz x30 (220)

-------------------------------------------
Deffkopta (70)
Buzzsaw
TL Rokkits

-------------------------------------------
Battlewagon (120)
Big Shoota
Deff Rolla
Red Paint Job

Battlewagon (120)
Big Shoota
Deff Rolla
Red Paint Job

I should indicate that the two mobs of 20 boyz would be mounted in the battlewagons to support the two larger mobs footslogging down the field with the Big Mek, as well as to provide heavy tankbusting if needed. Depending on who has first turn, the Deffkoptas can either outflank or use their scout movement to get in position for a turn one assault on key vehicles (either way they are generally throw away units), or to support assaults if necessary. The lootas will fill their generally accepted niche as backfield cover-mongers, ideally targeting light vehicles.

One thing Orks don't do well is balance. Go all foot or all mech mixing it up get your army killed piecemeal

An investment in Battlewagons dictates that you will be moving aggressively. This isn't always a good plan these days.

The boyz can just about keep up with a 'Wagon, but people will still be able to focus their fire on the two 'Wagons. If the KFF isn't protecting them, they will not likely make it far.

The rokkits in the 'Wagon strikes me as odd. The 'Wagon isn't useful unless it's rushing forward rollin' stuff. I like rokkits in some Ork lists, but only if it can be played in a defensive mode.

Splitting the Lootas would allow you two targets per turn. They would be a little more vulnerable to running off, but the units would be cheap and you wouldn't be losing all of them in one go.

The best balanced list to me is the Kan Wall. It can play defensively or aggressively or even somewhere in between.

All that said, you list doesn't look bad and I do love me some Buzzkoptas!

Hmmmm, as mentioned by others Wagons do not fit. Instead add another Big Mek exactly the same as you have now. Split the Lootas into two units of 5 giving split anti tank fire. Then finally switch the Battlewagons for 3 x 3 Killa Kanz with rokkits and hey presto Kan wall with loads of Boyz.

Thanks for the advice. I've always had success with balanced lists, but have only recently begun playing Orks. I have been pulling out my hair trying to come up with something that incorporates firepower, force and speed. I guess I just have to come to grips with the fact that I need to hammer out a focused force. Oh well, thought I'd ask about it anyhow!

Best idea? Read the snippet of the dex on pages 64-65. Pick one of those or make a mashup of your own and have a blast At the moment you have a multiple speed force and it really will hinder you in the long run.

Obviously there's a few types of ork armies out there that can (sorta) handle everybody. There's the flootsloggers that should either be a huge rabble of boys with ghaz and a weirdboy or kan wall, so less boyz and more grots-in-soupcans. If you mech up you have a few options. There's the battlewagon rush with 4+ wagons and the KFF mek lurking about. Then there's trukkrush or biker rush, so lots of trukks and/or bikers with koptas and warbuggies thrown into the mix.

Whatever takes your fancy
