Now, you guys know me well enough now to know that I'm not the kind of guy who likes to stand up on his soapbox and put myself in public eye, but I feel I have to say something here. I know most people won't read this and those who do probably will just think I'm stating the obvious, but I can't just stand by and watch anymore.

Some of you may have noticed I haven't posted for a few days; if I'm being honest, its because i've been doing some soul -searching. I've been thinking about my life, loves, hates etc etc, and something finally occured to me after 14 years on earth that probably occured to you after 14 nanoseconds; "Complaining about something won't make it go away."

This may sound odd, but let me explain. I, like many people my age, have an unrequited crush on someone. I don't mind admitting it, her name's Eleanor and I think she is one of the most amazing women i've ever met. But, as I mentioned, she doesn't hold the same affection for me; and that's fine. Its fine, because I know that whining about it won't change anything, and in the grand scheme of things I should be glad for what I have rather than what I want.

Again, this may seem irrelevant, but here's my point; since the new Grey Knights were announced, no one needs me to tell them there's been a rash of threads on them. Without naming names, I've seen things along the lines of "New Dreadknight is babycarrier lawl", "OMG NEW GREY KNIGHTS BRAKE THE GAME THE SKY IS FAWLING!!!1!!" and so on. And, we get it; we understand you're annoyed. I'm annoyed too. But please, would it be so hard to just keep your complaints in existing threads? Would it really be so difficult to take a little extra time to look around and see what's already there? And do we have to act like this every time a new codex is released? The sky is not falling, we are not all going to die, and I for one feel glad for all the Grey Knights players who have patiently waited for so long and have now been rewarded with a brand spanking new codex. So what if my army men book is better than your army men book? Life goes on. Like I said, I can't have beautiful models, a balanced codex and great support any more than I can make Eleanor like me, but I'm okay with all of these things because in the bigger picture there's a 99% chance it'll turn out alright. Should I have those things? Yes (alright, maybe not the last one ), but I'm not going to throw my toys out of the proverbial pram.

This might seem like I'm BLAMING THE VICTI...pointing fingers. I'm not. I'm not trying to embarass anyone or take away from the many good discussion threads we have on the new codex. By all means; debate. Argue. Share ideas, concerns, plans. But all I'm asking for is some consideration for others who aren't interested in having to scrawl through an entire page of "DREADKNIGHT BABY CARRIER" threads to find something. So, what do you say?

Please?

You're too good for her.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I think you overestimate people's capacity for empathy and manners. I don't like the Dreadknight model, but like [some] after my initial venting I got over it. I still don't like the model, but I don't see the need to continue bashing it. Now, if one of my friends started up a GK army I might haze them [thats how my group of friends act like manly! we haze the hell out of one another.], but as far as this forum goes.. well, it has gotten stale hasn't it?

These are the tales of the Skeleton Warriors....

Probably work

Stale is a mild way to put it; I would have said something along the lines of "has gotten to the point in which that the whiny nerd rage has made me consider an extended vacation." It hit that point about the time whoever it was created the ridiculous "Utter betrayal by GW" thread.

Thank god I won't have to be at work the next couple days, and thus, will be far away from Dakka. To think I was actually excited about the news and preorder. The amount of bitching I've read in the last week has all but sucked the excitement dry.

Yeah, I agree. Every time a new codex comes out, it's a storm of whining. I am guilty of it myself, I complained bitterly when 5th edition came out, but I eventually decided that it wasn't worth the effort. However, I used to look forward to what might be in a new Orks codex, but lately I'm starting to regard that possibility with more fear than wonder.

Hopefully this thread can be a home for those who think there is too much ranting in this fourm and that they do not start another, similar, thread.

To be a bit blunt, get used to it kid. Every discussion site you find for any subject imaginable will have the same thing. Part of discussing things is giving opinions.

As far as getting multiple threads on the same subject...there are lots of reasons for that. I wont bother to list them.

Thats what mods are for...locking the excess and generally keeping the site cleaned up.

On the subject of the ZOMG threads...problem is some people get way too wrapped up in their hobby. Its all they think or talk about. To them, any change to their army, or something that is better than their army, is a life changer. These people tend to forget its all just a game. Its easy enough to spot them and they should be ignored.

Sadly this seems to infect 40k players rampantly. Everything must be equated to something in 40k. Every game product (for other games) must be scrutinized for possible use in 40k.

In all honesty, I'm still ranting about the Dark Eldar codex (I still haven't won a game against them yet, drawn yes, but sadly no wins for my banana men) but when it comes to the Grey Knights i was ready to stand aside and let the tide wash over me. I saw the new codex in my FLGS today and after one quick skim through had a small ten or so man army planned out in my head. Sad face. I agree wholeheartedly that just because there is a new codex out my world is not infact about to end, despite the fact that when i see them next i'll probably be on the losing end, and the only way to get over this is to come back and try again rather than retiring to the internet and our beloved Dakka and saying how "unfair" and "broken" the new kid on the block is.

Well done, sunshine

I completely agree. But, you know, some people take things too seriously. And there's a fine line between discussing the impact on the game something like a new Codex has, and expressing your opinion on how that makes you feel.

It's all been getting a bit old for a while. But as long as this wonderful site keeps doing well, there will be new users. And those users haven't yet figured out that most of the threads they start have already been discussed a million times.

Chocolate milk, Beer, and the Victorias Secret Models... all of these deserve to remain unchanged and would be cause for an uproar. Plastic overpriced army men models/toys? Not bloody likely. P.S. Definitely agree with you. I tend to only get my news about GW from GW because of all the whining that inevitably happens here. Every single rumor has a ton of 'why not my army' type things (slightly guilty here pre-FAQ, but not on the same scale) and enough to make the update seem like GW is trying to scam us every time they release an update that people have begged for.

Oh please give us an update for the Dark Eldar!
-updates-
GW you're evil, how could you do such a thing? I've been betrayed and you've broken my heart! -runs off to cry in the corner-

Its not a wonder why they don't listen to us, really.

On the other part, hope that unrequited love thing works out somehow, that can get pretty painful in certain circumstances. Best of luck.

IMHO, the real problem with GW is that they put out codices so seldom. Take Privateer Press, for example. They put out a new edition and all of the Force Books within 6 months. I've never been able to get my head around what makes the lists so hard to generate for GW, with all the money they pour into production. Perhaps a basically unstable ruleset? I don't know, but were they to put updates out for all the armies within a timely manner of the release of a new ruleset, I think all this BaMing about the lack of balance would be largely a thing of the past.

Very nice post, LLF. I really should take your advice, to be honest.

I was in a similar boat as you a couple months ago. Long story short, it didn't work, and now we hate each other! Sometimes it turns out you just love the way someone makes you feel, not the person themselves. But that's just me.

When the pics first came out, I said to myself
"dakka's gone mad..", and it really did!

I find the straightforward complaining less irritating than the desperate cynicism/ terrible internet humour.
I have no particular problem reading someones coherent explanation of why they don't like something. I don't really need to see the 50th iteration of Xzibit's head next to model X. (Seriously, that show hasn't been on for nearly 5 years).

Aw, damn, there was me thinking our lil' little Lord Fauntly was going to ask for help capturing the heart of a girl..

Every forum should have a "life & advice" thread.

Not much to add here other than that.. carry on.

Isn't complaining about GW the entire point of playing GW games?

No, playing GW games is the point of playing GW games.

Excellent-if I can make 1 person a day laugh, whether its with me or at me, I feel like i've contributed.

Seriously, I realise that this thread is unlikely to change anything. Combating whine threads with what is in essence a whine thread will never work. But I have to try, don't I? At least then I can have a clear conscience. And I'm not trying to downplay what the Mods are doing either-I think they're stellar in their roles as rule-keepers and I have the upmost respect for them.

Heh heh. Thanks guys, but I'll be fine-I've survived 4 years in this situation, I think I can make another 2; thens she's out of my life forever and I never speak to her again. In the meantime, I have a plan, its pretty simple, but we'll need a spoon, a colander, an ak-47 clip, and 20 litres of blood collected from chickens killed at midnight. WHO'S WITH ME?

Wouldn't it just be easier to go buy a shovel, rent a car and invite her on a road trip to Vegas?

Then when she turns around having said no.. SMACK on the back of the head! Then put her in the car drive into a wall, praying for absolution from god as you die a hard, fiery death. If you're unlucky, you'll survive. Mwahaha.

Anyway, you might want to change "thens he's" to "then she's". People might get the wrong idea you know..
