I have been playing 40k for a year and had to take a break from playing, building, painting, basically the entirety. I'm thinking about playing again, Ive found a new hobby store and have some models for an army that I was thinking about starting, Space Wolves.

Just figured i would share and see if anyone has any comments or suggestions. I dont remember any of the rules or anything X_X so ill be starting from scratch.

GK are out in a few weeks... though they may not appeal to you.
SW are a solid army to start with. Pretty good all-round and no massive weaknesses.

The dice are the cube shaped ones with dots on...
Get the AoBR rulebook off the net, it has the rules and it very cheap.
Check around in tactics for tips on using your chosen army...
Whack an army list in army lists and see what people say.

If you're using sugar cubes you might want to check what you've been putting in your tea.

Pick an army that you think looks cool, check their fluff via codex and definitely grab one of the cheap rulebooks online. Read. Read. Read. SM are good bang for buck. Or so I hear.

Orks or Space Marines are a good start, Orks are comical, and the user here "DashofPepper" can tell you how to play them quite well. Plus they have quite a bit of "kustomization".

+1 Str for like 5 points? To autocannons or assault cannons? Hell yea. Then the Reinforced Aegis upgrade for free AND the ability to ignore stunned shaken.. pretty much for free..
Other Dreadnaughts should just go somewhere and be a toaster.

Mattieu~~~~ It's not that eldar are bad, it's that they require a lot of intergration between units. Also, that doesnt prove anything other than GW has a huge hard-on for marines, and, given the option between making a xeno the best psykers or making a marine the best psyker, they will 9 times out of 10 choose the marine.

I'm in a similar kinda situation. Used to play years ago, found myself getting interested again, and despite reading many bad reports have started a Necron Army. I kind of like going against the norm or rooting for the underdog, so for me Space Marines are bit too much of an "easy choice" if you know what i mean.

For me its about building an Army that you have an interest in rather than just choosing the Army that might get you the most victories.

Ask not what your Army can do for you, but what you can do for your Army.

Good Luck with whatever you decide.

well i still own the space marine side of black reach ( right before i quit me and my friend split it ) as well as the OLD dark eldar i never finished putting together.

I have the rulebook and a pile of codex's on my table. i just need to take the time to look over them. AND i need to buy the new dark eldar codex.

I never played DE before and i have an actual army of them. I used to play nids and i couldnt adjust to the new book so i traded them.

So looks like i need to break out the glue and finish putting together my DE army........can i still use the old models?

I cant agree with you more. I mean when i used to play nids people thought i was stupid. because of what i would field and how, but i still came out with a win OR a close loss.

I dont care if i win or lose, i like to win hell who doesnt, but i have an akward play style. I have in every game ive ever played. Im not chosing SM because its the easiest, but because ive had my eye on SW for a long time.
