So, I was on forge world and I noticed the experimental rules for Commander Culln. I'm just curious as too wether I can take these rules and use them for a captain for my DIY chapter, the dragon legion. He has terminator armour, a relic blade and the eternal warrior special rule. Which in my eyes are all desirable traits especially eternal warrior so he can stare down monstrous creatures (such as my girlfriend's nightbringer) without fear of being instant killed.

I know the codex only has 2 eternal warriors, Marneus Calgar and Darnath Lysander. Both of which are not bad Marny is probably a bit over priced for me and Lysander is sweet love the layout but I don't want to be stuck at iniative 1 although strength 10 would be nice. Seems as there is no wargear that grants eternal warrior (such as the adamantium mantle in the BT codex) does anybody see it as a problem to use this guys rules under a captain of my own name?

I mostly only play friendly games with brothers, friends, girlfriend and the odd time against someone I barely know in my local GW! I know the codex says you can use the characters rules as long as they are under a custom name and your opponent is aware of what it counts as the problem is I don't own imperial armour and the rules are "experimental" anybody check it out and let me know what they think?

Thanks,
Jordan

Since the rules are not yet official and are experimental, for a friendly game i believe you should check with your opponent first. I wouldn't plan on using them in a tournament though.

I don't generally do tournaments as there aren't many in my area, and if I was too I would probably take a librarian as my only HQ. I just love the fluff involved in having a massively powerful captain/chapter master that can charge a carnifex and have a reasonable chance of taking it down

If I had a peak at an imperial armour it's perfectly fine to just use rules and characters out of that in standard battles yeah? Or is there some specific way to use the forge world rules?

The codex does say that but Commander Cullen is not available as a selection for a codex SM army - he is only to be selected for a Red Scorpion army (rules in IA4). Equally, you cannot select characters or units from Codex Blood Angels to be used in your C:SM army.

IA units that can be selected for a normal codex army state this - e.g. Damacles Rhino "The Damocles Rhino is a HQ choice for Space Marine, Dark Angel, Black Templar, Space Wolf and Blood Angels Armies, please refer to the appropriate codex."

However, if your opponents are okay with it then that's fine but do be aware that this is not a FW unit that is supposed to be used with your army.

In a friendly game it doesn't matter that much if he is avialable to Red Scorpions only or to all Marines. I'd treat him as any other IC like Vulkan or Pedro for the purposes of a friendly game.

I agree that in a friendly game with opponent's consent then it's okay.

However, it's quite different to suggest a unit from an IA expansion which is explicitly to be included in your codex army and one which is not.

For example, Grot Tanks can be included in a C:Orks army but a Pain Boss cannot - he is only for a DreadMob army list.

I think, as has been said, the "Experimental Rules" commander Culln is only to be used in the Red Scorpions army list. However, he's also in IA:9 or IA:10, and can be taken in any C:SM army.

Ah I see I must have missed that point, but I seen the rules for him in IA9 where he was a high lord and has the same rule as Lellith Hesperax.

I really want a strong captain unit and I don't particularly like the idea of buying a 50 or 60 quid book for the rules too one character! All the characters in the codex are pretty cool and all have something which could be used in my favour but only 2 are eternal warriors and both must strike at low iniative!

The IA 10 rules are for Chapter Master Culln. The experimental rules on the FW site are for Captain Culln.
