I am fairly new to the hobby without much money. I have a solid regular force, finally, but I always wanted to have a secondary army that used a lot of terminators. Since Grey Knights have terminators count as troops, I figure they're not a bad option for a low model count (and therefore cheap money-wise) army. But can I do it even cheaper? It seems that there are extra swords in the GK Terminator box. Could I buy one GK box and one cheaper ultramarines terminator box and still end up with sword wielding GK Termies?

I've got like 20 metal terminators laying around. I honestly have no idea how I came into possession of them considering I never collected space marines. Looks like all of them will remain unused.

Aren't both regular termies and assault termies $50? seems like the GK termies are also.

Other terminator sets can be had purchased at a discount now, where as I doubt the GK ones will be for awhile.

Also, apparently it is possible to buy the Black Reach terminators from bits sites. Which is great, but then I would have to track down left arms to add the swords onto, since 4 out of 5 termies in the Black Reach set have power fists....

You dont need a lot of GKT to field an army...just save up and buy a box at a time. 2 boxes and a command model and your set for a decent game. Thats maybe $125-150 US. Not super cheap but even my poor self can scrape that up within a few weeks.

GKT will have the same discount from online retailers as any others. Ive seen preorders for them on ebay already $40 US a box.


AoBR terms are a great deal on ebay, but they wont pass for GKT to most players. Sure, you could use the body/legs and get GKT arms & weapons. However, id expect GKT parts to go for big $$ on ebay and bits sites since they are brand new and supply will be low for a while.

Your best bet is just buy the GKT box.

Truth is in the above. It's just as expensive to get one as the other. Now standard Grey Knights are a different story completely. A box of GK and SM will get you 15 models, though they will look a little different.

just get some AOBR termys and a few thunder hammers off ebay and your good to go ^^. I'll post pics of mine in a bit

You can easily do this with AOBR Terminators, or Plastic boxed ones, (Buy them off ebay, bartertown, Dakka Swap shop or even, get this, a bring and buy sale at my FLGS! I bought a 80% complete box of AOBR for £5, including 5 termies!).

Then cut the Helmets of your Termies like at 45degrees like i did for these ones. (IAW the article link above)


Then get some shields and halberds off a WHFB player (This is easy for like £5 you can buy a load of stuff) for the Weapons and heraldry and then if you want to go all out get some Dreadnought Shin Armour as it fits over the Pauldrons like so..


Or make your own from bits and spare etc..


You can definitely do this super cheap and it will look good, lots of shields and details and the Helmets give them the look, everything else, well let your mind run wild. Don't waste money on "Official" GKT.

If you can convert the faces and give them a wrist mounted storm bolter with a CC weapon then you should be golden.
